Charter Offers Lap-Top Incentive

Subscribers Adding Services Get Chance To Win Computer

By Linda Haugsted -- Multichannel News, 8/26/2008 10:11:00 AM

New and current Charter customers who purchase products online this month will qualify to win a lap-top from the cable operator.

Charter will give away a computer a day for helping themselves online to new digital-cable, Internet or telephone services. In addition to a chance at the laptop, consumers will get a $25 gasoline card for ordering one service; $50 for two services or $100 in gas for a triple-play bundle.

"Our customers have made online sales our fastest-growing channel because it is an efficient way of finding the package that best meets their needs," said Barbara Hedges, senior vice president, consumer marketing for the operator, in a statement.

Sales rewards have become the new battleground between video competitors. Some of the offers currently advertised include up to $200 cash back on online orders from AT&T; DirecTV giving new customers four free months of service; and Verizon proffering a free first month of video service, as well as activation and 30 days of HBO/Cinemax. The telco is also offering consumers 12 months free use of a digital-video recorder of their choice, including a multi-room DVR.
