The Weather Channel and Cox Communications human relations executive Mae Douglas will both receive awards this year from the Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association.
The cable channel has been named the recipient of the trade association’s “HR Best Practice Resulting in Operational Efficiency Award” for its Emerging Sales Leader Program. Through the program, both the sales and HR teams collaborate to ensure that The Weather Channel has qualified internal candidates ready to be promoted when vacancies occur on the sales staff. The channel created an intensive one-year sales management program to accelerate candidate readiness and effectiveness.
Since the inception of the program, two classes have graduated, with 70% of the 2005-06 class moving into management positions with one year of graduation, according to The Weather Channel.
Mae Douglas (pictured), Cox’s senior vice president and chief people officer has earned the “Leadership Excellence Award.” Douglas is honored for her commitment to diversity within her company, as well as her ability to leverage technology to enhance recruiting, training and employee access to HR programs and services, CTHRA officials said.
CTHRA will present the awards on Oct. 13 in Atlanta during the organization's Achieving HR Excellence symposium.
