By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 8/28/2008 10:48:00 AM

Greek, ABC Family’s comedy-drama series, posted strong ratings—particularly among young female and women viewers—in its second-season debut Tuesday night, luring more than 1.6 million total viewers back to campus.

The second-season premiere garnered 1.2 million viewers 12-34, 841,000 female viewers 12-34 and the 1.6 million total viewers marked a 46% improvement compared to the first-season debut (1.1 million total viewers), according to Nielsen Media Research.

The show, which follows members of the Greek system at fictitious Cyrus-Rhodes University, was the No. 2 cable television show in its timeslot Tuesday night among women 18-34, viewers 12-34 and females 12-34.

Compared to its freshman debut the previous summer, Greek’s second-season premiere saw triple-digit increases in adults 18-34 (612,000 vs. 303,000), women 18-34 (391,000 vs. 167,000) and total viewers 12-34 (1.2 million vs. 592,000).
