Lifetime Will Provide ‘Living Proof’

Zellweger, Connick Jr. Project Debuts Next Month

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 8/29/2008 8:49:00 AM

Living Proof, a Lifetime original movie starring Harry Connick, Jr. and executive produced by Renee Zellweger, will premiere Saturday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. ET, network officials said this week.

The film chronicles the true story of Dr. Denny Slamon, the UCLA doctor who helped develop the breast cancer drug, Herceptin 2.

Written and also executive produced by Vivienne Radkoff, Living Proof marks Zellweger’s first television project and the reunion of Connick Jr. and Zellweger, who recently concluded filming of a new feature title Chilled in Miami.

The movie will document Dr. Slamon’s “relentless battle to keep the drug trials afloat and save the lives of thousands of women,” the network said.

“This is truly a passion project for all of us at Lifetime,” Tanya Lopez, Lifetime’s senior vice president, original movies, said in a statement. “Dr. Slamon is an unsung hero in the fight against breast cancer and no one is better suited to play him than Harry Connick Jr., who himself is committed to helping others.

The film was shot on location in Connick’s hometown of New Orleans.

Living Proof premieres during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month as the centerpiece of Lifetime’s 14th annual multi-platform “Stop Breast Cancer for Life” public service and advocacy campaign.
