Batter Up: MLB Network Unveils New Logo

-- Multichannel News, 9/2/2008 10:15:00 AM

The MLB Network has stepped to the dish with its logo.

The logo incorporates the moniker MLB Network in block letters above Major League Baseball’s iconic silhouetted batter, all inscribed within a home plate-shaped border.

“As the home to all things baseball, it’s appropriate to incorporate home plate along with the classic silhouetted batter into our logo,” said MLB Network president and CEO Tony Petitti in a statement. “This identity is consistent with the timeless Major League Baseball logos and will come to represent the comprehensive baseball programming that the network will offer.”

The logo will appear on the service’s advertising and promotional materials, on the set of MLB Network studio programs, and in conjunction with everything related to the new network.

Bowing Jan. 1, MLB Network, which will showcase live games, original programming, highlights, classic games, and coverage of other events, is projected to launch in approximately 50 million cable and satellite homes. That would make it the largest and most successful debut in cable TV history, exceeding any other cable launch by approximately 20 million.
