Verizon Picks Yahoo As Preferred Portal
New York — Verizon Communications inked an expanded deal with Yahoo, which will provide an integrated, co-branded Verizon-Yahoo portal as a “preferred starting point” for the telco’s new subscribers to its FiOS Internet and DSL Internet services. Specific financial terms of the multiyear deal weren’t disclosed. Verizon also offers broadband customers other choices for portals, including those provided by Time Warner Inc.’s AOL, Microsoft’s MSN and the telco’s own Verizon.net site.
SCTE Sets Canadian Summit Dates
Exton, Pa. — The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers announced its first conference in Canada, scheduled for Feb. 3 to 4, 2009, in Toronto.
The SCTE Canadian Summit 2009 will feature technical exhibits and workshops, general sessions, and networking opportunities, all designed to be “specific to the cable telecommunications industry in Canada,” the professional organization said.
SCTE’s director-at-large for Canada, Dermot O’Carroll, will serve as the event’s chairman.
