Deal With Cyfrowy Polsat Will Improve HD Services

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 11/24/2008 10:29:00 AM

EchoStar Europe has done a deal for itsadvanced HDTV set-top boxes with Cyfrowy Polsat, the largest Polish satellite TV service, serving 2.4 million subscribers, officials said Monday.

The launch of the DBS-7100HD product is meant to help bolster the digital satellite TV operator’s offer of HDTV services, according to company officials.

“We are delighted that Cyfrowy Polsat selected EchoStar Europe to supply high definition set-top boxes to meet the increased consumer demand for its HDTV service,” Rick Smith, vice president of sales and marketing EMEA, EchoStar Europe, said in a prepared statement. “We have a well established relationship with Cyfrowy Polsat supporting them with their continued roll-out of digital services, especially advanced, high quality HD programming.”

The DBS-7100HD is an advanced set-top designed to provide consumers with reception of HDTV services. The unit is equipped with a single-chip silicon solution and has the connectivity required to be placed at the focal point of a consumer’s digital entertainment center.

As part of EchoStar Europe’s commitment to lowering an operator’s network overhead and optimising Average Revenue Per Unit, or ARPU, the product platform is compatible with the company’s latest, advanced set-top remote diagnostics system to optimize network efficiency.
