TelVue Reaches 20 Million Mark

Staff -- Multichannel News, 3/26/2001

MOUNT LAUREL , N.J.-TelVue Corp. last week said it now serves more than 20 million cable TV and direct- broadcast satellite subscribers with its automatic number identification telecommunications and Internet pay-per-view ordering service.

Those totals push TelVue's market share of PPV order-processing capability to more than 60 percent of addressable cable homes and more than 50 percent of combined cable and satellite PPV- capable households.

The Mount Laurel, N.J.-based TelVue estimates that ANI, its nearest competitor, now controls only about 15 percent of the PPV ordering market.

"We are up against new technology-subscribers with digital cable service can order from an on-screen menu using their remote control, and this is the method that many cable systems prefer that they would use," TelVue executive vice president of sales and operations Joe Murphy said in a statement. "However, we have been able to develop a number of products, like single telephone number market ordering for all cable systems in a region and Internet ordering online, that have kept us relevant."
