Charter Communications Inc.

ST. LOUIS - Charter Communications Inc. last week reached a deal with software provider Liberate Technologies Inc. through which it will offer Liberate-based services to at least 300,000 Charter cable subscribers over the next several years. Charter's St. Louis system has tested Liberate's platform on Motorola DCT-5000 set-tops since February, and the MSO plans to launch Liberate in one other system this year, a spokesman said. Liberate did not get an exclusive deal and Charter could still use the rival Microsoft TV platform on advanced set-tops. Charter chairman Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft Corp.
