HBO Takes Home 5 Visions

Home Box Office took home the lion's share of the National Association of Minorities In Communications' Vision Awards, which highlight excellence in cable programming that reflects cultural diversity.

At a ceremony in Beverly Hills, Calif., last Friday, HBO won awards in five of the eight Vision categories, including music/variety (The Chris Rock Show), comedy (David Chappelle: Killing Them Softly) and best comedy performance (Sandra Oh, Arli$$). Disney Channel, Cable News Network and TBS Superstation also took home awards, said show organizers.

Showtime Networks received NAMIC's North Star Award for exceptional efforts toward developing projects and programming that reflects diversity. The award cited such Showtime fare as Resurrection Blvd., Soul Food and Queer As Folk.

KNBC-TV president and general manager Paula Madison received the Quasar Award, for work to advance the cause of diversity.

Children's:The Color Of Friendship (Disney).

Documentary:The Tulsa Lynchings of 1921: A Hidden Story (HBO); Ali-Frazier: One Nation Divisible (HBO).

News:Larry King Live: interview with Nelson Mandela (CNN).

Music/Variety:The Chris Rock Show (HBO).

Comedy:David Chappelle: Killing Them Softly (HBO).

Drama:Freedom's Song (TBS).

Best Comedic Performance: Sandra Oh, Arliss (HBO).

Best Dramatic Performance: Khandi Alexander, The Corner (HBO).
