Press Wars! Time Mag's Joe Klein Calls McCain Camp "Unprofessional" and "Stupidly Aggressive"
September 3, 2008

Yikes!  In the aftermath of Campbell Brown's assertive interview on CNN with McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, things are heating up and not in Iraq.

Time Magazine Joe Klein flamed the McCain campaign today, calling them "unprofessional" and "stupidly aggressive."

Washington Post's Howard Kurtz wrote a piece today titled "The War Against The Press."  Says Kurtz:

I've talked to many political professionals over the years who were mad at the media, or me in particular.  But I've never quite had a conversation like the one Tuesday night with Steve Schmidt....In an extraordinary and emotional interview, Steve Schmidt said his campaign feels "under siege" by wave after wave of news inquiries...The McCain camp has been unusually aggressive in pushing back against the media, and it seems to hope to persuade journalists to back off in their scrutiny of Palin.

Addressing the McCain camp retaliation against CNN (see my previous post), Time Magazine's Joe Klein came out swinging today in his blog.

Klein called the McCain campaign "unprofessional" and "stupidly aggressive."

Klein points to what he characterized as McCain's "bizarre" and "prickly" interview with Time Magazine last week.  Then, Klein takes on Steve Schmidt, McCain's top campaign strategist:

Steve Schmidt has decided, for tactical reasons, to slime the press.  He wants the public to believe that there is an unfair--sexist (you gotta love it)--personal assault going on against Palin and her family. This is a smokescreen, intended to divert attention from...the very real and responsible vetting that is taking place in the media--about the substance of Palin's record as mayor and governor.....But the media coverage of the Palin story has been well within the bounds of responsibility. Schmidt is trying to make it seem otherwise, a desperate tactic....

The attempts by the McCain campaign to bully us into not reporting such things are not only stupidly aggressive, but unprofessional in the extreme.

Whew!!  Mopping brow here.

mhf - I've removed your comment because you jump to wild conclusions. I don't know a single person on Daily Kos btw, and rarely link to that website. However, tt's protocol to link to a site that breaks news, however. you're actually shooting the messenger. You can click through to the remarks of Klein or Kurtz. I suggest you read their material in full. and you are welcome to comment on the basis ofcontent. but if you persist in personal attacks your posts will be deleted.
