Cable Tops Google Trends: Grenier, Army Wives, Ridgemont High, Tapout
June 4, 2007

If Google is any indication, viewers are paying close attention as the cable summer season kicks in. They piled into Google last night around 6 p.m. Pacific time, on the prowl for information about Sunday’s cable television fare. For most of the evening, six of the top ten topics on Google’s hot list were related to cable shows airing last night.

At one point, Adrian Grenier, Entourage star and subject of last night’s HBO doc Shot in the Dark, jumped to the #2 position. Lifetime’s premiere of Army Wives, soared to #3.

Searches related to Army Wives cast members Sally Pressman, Kim Delaney and Drew Fuller also sparked user interest and Google rated Army Wives as “on fire.” The show finished the day in fifth place.

Also, sizzling and leaping to #2, then settling in at #4 for the day: Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Ridgemont High screened last night on AMC and this week the channel airs a bunch of old school classics. “Red Dawn is playing three times! Wolverines!!” says this 80’s-obsessed blogger.

MTV’s Movie Awards aired last night, and the award show and host Sarah Silverman generated top-ten Google interest -- especially Silverman’s Paris Hilton Goes to Jail riff which also posted instantaneously on YouTube.

For several hours Tapout, a reality series about the men (Mask, Punkass, and Skyscrape) behind a Mixed
Martial Arts clothing and gear company,
hovered at #5 before finally dropping back. Tapout launched on Versus last night.

Predictably lingering in the top ten for the primetime hours was “The Sopranos final episode.”

But the #1 topic for the day, and bolted to the top spot all evening, was: “Cisco Adler's balls.”

Adler is Mischa Barton’s ex and she reportedly tried to ring him from her hospital bed after “getting messed up” at Nicole Ritchie’s bash. The hard-partying rocker Cisco, says Celebwarship, is “best known to Internet surfers for his dangling participles.”

But as of this morning, Adler had vanished into the pop culture mist - dislodged by Paris Hilton’s mug shot, naturally.
