DirecTV Set to Tee Off
April 9, 2008

Tomorrow DirecTV is set to tee off on is coverage of the 2008 Masters Tournament from the Augusta National Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia.

This will be one of DirecTV’s most ambitious sports broadcasts to date and will use all of DirecTV’s available technologies, including mosaic, interactive, HD and on demand features.

DirecTV will dedicate 9 channels (701 – 710) to the Masters coverage.  Users will be able to watch different holes by selecting what they want to see via an interactive on screen mosaic.  But the interactive features don’t end there, golf fans will be able to push a button on their remote and take a look at the leader board at any time.

In addition DirecTV is offering its Masters coverage in full HD.  DirecTV is advertising that the picture is so good, to see the action any closer and clearer you would need to be on the course carrying one of the players bags.

New for this year is the Masters On Demand channel, this channel uses DirecTV On Demand technology to bring viewers previews plus recaps from each days play.

If you love golf you will love this special Masters coverage from DirecTV.

I got to admit it DirecTV’s sporting events lately have been top notch, their presentations are what all the other companies should try aiming for.  DirecTV is setting the bar high and I hate to say it but its almost like DirecTV has “Mastered” sports coverage.

More HD Locals from Dish Network

Dish Network keeps pumping out HD locals and today they launched 4 additional HD markets.

HD Locals are now available in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tampa, Florida, Cleveland, Ohio and Richmond, Virginia.

For customers in these areas they may need a second dish pointed at the 61.5 orbital location to receive these locals.  For those folks needing this Dish you should wait until tomorrow before calling Dish Network for an upgrade as these new cities are not listed in their computer system yet.
