Wrestling with HD
January 14, 2008
As you might have read here today at MultiChannel.COM the WWE is set to go HD later on this month, beginning with it’s “Royal Rumble” Pay Per View. I have received confirmation that both satellite companies will be carrying both the standard definition feed as well as the high definition feeds.
It should be noted that according to the directv.com website DirecTV will be charging its customers $10 more to see the HD version, while Dish Networks website say that customers who order the show will get both feeds for $39.95.
WWE Raw is cable televisions top rated show, and it will air its first HD show the night after the “Royal Rumble” currently DirecTV customers will be able to enjoy it in HD, however Dish Network customers will not get to see the HD version as Dish Network does not carry USA HD. The same can be said about the WWE’s ECW show, which will soon start airing in HD on SCIFI HD Dish Network does not currently carry SCIFI HD in its lineup.
I can only hope that in the next few weeks Dish Network can get a deal done to offer these two channels to its customers. If there is no agreement in place you can bet that the online forums are going to fill up with unhappy wrestling fans mad at Dish Network, this is something I don’t want to see happening.
