It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...
November 1, 2007

The ghosts and goblins are now a thing of the past and in most department stores you can forget about Thanksgiving they are already pushing Christmas. Many if not all the stores in my area now have their holiday displays setup and many are also already playing wall-to-wall Christmas music.

XM Satellite Radio has also gotten into the Holiday Music spirit early as today they have launched “Holly” on XM Channel 103. Holly bills itself as contemporary holiday hits with a touch of the classics. XM will be rolling out 4 more additional 24 hour holiday channels on November 19th. And on December 4th XM will once again bring listeners Radio Hanukkah as well.

Sirius Satellite Radio has announced it plans yet for this years Holiday channels, but if it’s anything like the past few years the holiday programming will start on Thanksgiving Day.

Both satellite radio companies are gearing up for the holiday shopping season as well. They hope that their faithful subscribers will give their friends and families the gift of satellite radio this holiday season.

On the Satellite Television front both companies don’t seem to have anything planned for the holidays. I personally cannot think of a better gift for the holidays then a satellite system (especially if the person is getting a new HDTV for the holiday) yet both companies current promotions leave a lot to be desired.

I have never understood why the satellite companies do not go all out to give great deals on satellite for the holidays. For the past few years companies like Dish Network have ignored the holidays and instead focused its time and energy on getting ready for the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In the years past new exciting products such as new receivers and PocketDish units were not available for the holidays but became available shortly after the New Year.

If I were in charge of either of the companies, I would be working to make it a priority to make deals so that any new HDTV comes with a free satellite system.

It still amazes me to this day how many people I know who have HDTV’s yet don’t have any real HD signals being seen on their TV’s. What’s even scarier is that most of them think their picture looks great and also think that they have full HD just because they have a HDTV. My question is why isn’t the satellite industry out there marketing to these folks?

Finally since it seems to be the season already, WalMart seems to be getting into the spirit already. I am hearing a strong rumor that they will be offering a Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD player for only $98.87 Friday morning at 8am. Happy Shopping!

A few more HD channels would be nice along with a under $99 HD DVD player along with discounted discs would be a great X-mas gift...
