There is not much going on in the industry this week, but here are a few things that may interest you from the world of Satellite and IPTV.
DirecTV to Revamp Portion of Channel Lineup
DirecTV will be revamping some of its channel lineup beginning next week. This revamping of the lineup is expected to take around 4 months. All changes are expected to be finished in early October.
Most of the changes will be directed at the Regional Sports Network Channels in the 600’s range.
On June 4th the MLS Direct Kick package will move from its current home in the 694 – 699 range down to its new home of 444 – 449.
ESPN Gameplan will move from 686 – 691 to its new home of 704 – 709 and will share channels with the NFL Sunday Ticket.
ESPN Full Court will move from 692 – 699 to its new home of 742 – 749.
DirecTV customers will be notified of the changes via an onscreen display. In addition channels will be dual illuminated for about a week before the old channel number is taken down.
AT&T UVERSE Begins HD Upgrade
One of the major drawbacks of the AT&T UVERSE service was that customers could only watch on HD program in their house at a time.
A few weeks ago this drawback took a giant step forward as AT&T began testing delivering two HD streams into customers home. This test was done in the St. Louis area and appears to have gone well as now AT&T it willing out this upgrade to other areas that AT&T UVERSE serves.
Dish Expands HD Locals Again
Yesterday the folks from Buffalo, NY area were the lucky ones to get their HD locals delivered to them by Dish Network.
Dish Network keeps pushing forward and has plans to launch a number of other HD local cities this summer. Dish is well on its way to service 100 cities in HD by the end of the year.
Even with the problems Dish had because of the failure of AMC-14, Dish has been going full steam ahead in the HD world. I am even hearing the rumor that Dish Customers may see additional national HD channels launched in the near future.
This is a great time to be a fan of HDTV.
