BREAKING - DISH EXPANDS HD LINEUP
May 11, 2008

When I wrote in my column the other day that business was about to pick up this week for Dish Network, I didn’t realize that it was going to start at 10 PM on Sunday Night.  10PM was the time I was alerted by my contacts at Dish that a Press Release was about to come out that was going to make a lot of folks very happy.

At 10:27 the press release hit the wires and there was instantly excitement in the air. The announcement was that Dish was charging forward with its HD plans and was announcing a bunch of new  HD channels would be launching on Monday.  A total of 19 new national HD channels would launch this week.  This makes for 22 new national HD channels over the past few weeks for Dish  Network.

The channels that have launched or will be launching include:

  • ABC Family HD (DISH Network Ch. 180)
  • Biography HD (Ch. 119)
  • Bravo HD (Ch. 129)
  • Cartoon HD (Ch. 176)
  • Cinemax 5 Star (Ch. 381)
  • Cinemax HD West (Ch. 380)
  • Comcast Sports Network Bay Area HD (Ch. 419)*
  • Comcast Sports Network New England HD (Ch. 435)*
  • CNBC HD (Ch. 208)
  • CNN HD (Ch. 200) (Already Launched)
  • Disney HD East (Ch. 172)
  • ESPNews HD (Ch. 142)
  • Hallmark Movie Channel HD (Ch. 187)
  • MGM HD (Ch. 385)
  • Sci Fi HD (Ch. 122) (Already Launched)
  • Smithsonian HD (Ch. 374)
  • Tennis Channel HD (Ch. 400)
  • Toon Disney HD (Ch. 174)
  • Travel Channel HD (Ch. 215)
  • USA HD (Ch. 105) (Already Launched)
  • Weather Channel HD (Ch. 214)
  • World Fishing Network HD (Ch. 396)

*Launch Wednesday, May 14

This launch is just in time for Monday Night’s Tech Chat, Tuesdays Earnings Call’s and this week’s Dish Network retailer conference known as “Team Summit.”  (The Dish Network "Tech Chat" can be seen by all Dish Network customers Monday night at 9PM Eastern Time on channel 101)

So I knew business was about to pick up for Dish, but I didn’t expect it to pick up this soon.  I personally can’t wait to see what the rest of the week holds for us.

I knew my patience was going to pay off...sooner or later! DISH could have handled it better and let us know what was coming and approximately when it was coming (they actually sort of did that in the last Charlie Chat, better late than never I guess) but now all is forgiven and I'm a pretty happy camper! Hopefully the grumbling will stop for a while...but that's probably too much to ask! THANK YOU CHARLIE AND COMPANY!!!

I just spoke with a Dish Network rep. and they said that these channels are "in the works" with no specific date for launch available-my Dish guide does NOT show ANY of these channels, either...way to go posting inaccurate info...

They will launch today. Just spoke to a Dish Network rep. The one you talked to must not have known what they were talking about.

JoeyGee, The info is accurate. Dish CSR's are uneducated people who read scripts off of their computer. They wouldnt know if channels have lauched until their script changes on their screen. Also, this was put out in a press release directly from Dish. They will be on your screen soon enough, maybe as soon as this wednesday. :)

Yeah, I figured that when they always lead off by saying: "We're sorry for the inconvenience", then she proceeded to read off EVERY HD channel they offer, completely ignoring my initial question. Thanks for the reply, Robert!

Suspect timing bringing these new channels on today...That way they can keep the dogs away after they yank "****". If it sounds too good to be true it usually is, especially with Dish..
