YES!
April 25, 2008

I will be the first to admit it, I am not much of a sports fan, in fact there is only one sports team that I can say I am a fan of and that is the Boston Red Sox.  I am not one of those guys that must watch every game that’s on TV.  In fact over the course of a season I only watch a handful of games.

As a Red Sox fan last night I committed a sin. I was flipping through the channels on my DirecTV receiver and stopped and watched and actually enjoyed a New York Yankees game.

The reason I enjoyed it was not because the Yankees lost but because DirecTV made the game more interesting to watch.  After being tuned in for a couple of second a notification popped up on my screen letting me know this game was interactive.  By pressing the red button on my remote I saw a menu of options, things like Player Stats, scores of other games, trivia and even the option for an extra camera view.

It was neat being able to see stats and information on who was batting, plus I enjoyed being able to check the scores of other games without changing the channels.  The extra camera was also different and fun to watch.    This interactivity made you feel more in tune with the game.

I understand that DirecTV has been doing Yankees games on Yes Network like this for a while now, but it was the first time I ever really experienced it.  I would love to see them expand this interactive coverage to other teams such as the Red Sox.

DirecTV is the only satellite company to carry Yes Network.  Where I live in Connecticut, Comcast has been heavily advertising that they have Yes Network but Dish does not.  I have seen ads on TV, ads in newspapers and even ads on billboards on the highway.  The way the ads are though they show a picture of a generic satellite Dish and never actually say the word Dish Network.  These ads because of the way they are written can appear to some to say that Yes Network is not available on Satellite, but this is not the case.

Besides offering Yes Interactive DirecTV also offers YES Network in HD.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Scott, Without DirecTV, I am unable to experience YES interactive TV. However, what I have read, and what you explain, is the future viewing experience. Whether the interactivity comes via cell phones, web, or converges to the STB, its all about interactivity, information, and instant access.
