New HD DVR showcased at CEDIA
September 5, 2007

Today the 2007 CEDIA Expo opens its doors in Denver, Colorado. DirecTV will be there and will be introducing and new MPEG4 High Definition DVR that will have the industry buzzing.

The new unit is rumored to be named the HR21 PRO, and can store up to 100 hours of MPEG4 HD content, plus may be the first satellite receiver to support 1080p resolution and optical HDMI.

This is not your ordinary home receiver; the HR21 PRO is designed to be professionally installed and can be rack mounted for the total professional look.

With its new bells and whistles and sleek professional look on thing will be missing from the HR21 PRO which has up to this point been found in other DirecTV HD DVR’s, and that feature missing is an over the air ATSC tuner.

While no cost has been officially announced as of press time, we are hearing a strong rumor this professional DirecTV DVR will cost over $1,000.

They sure love their HDTV

With yesterday’s addition of History Channel HD by Dish Network the online satellite discussion forums were filled with customers of both satellite companies claiming that their provider was the best.

Dish Network customers were razzing DirecTV customers about getting another HD addition and DirecTV customers were telling Dish Network customers they would soon be eating DirecTV’s HD dust.

The passion of these high definition lovers is to be admired, yet the constant battle of “Great taste – less filling” gets tiring after awhile.

These high definition fans no matter how passionate they are about their provider are failing to see the big picture, no matter what one satellite company is doing, the other is sure to follow. This means because of this extreme competition between the two satellite companies that all HD fans will benefit no matter which company they have.

And that can’t be a bad thing, could it?

Yeah, the razzing between both sides is a bit much. But I think it gets to the point that DirecTV's claims of exclusive contracts to bring programming in HD to DirecTV first is not all its made out to be. Bring it on! More HD for everybody! Make the HD Favorites List the all channels list. :--)

Regardless, satellite TV still has more HD stations then the lowly cable systems.
