Happy Birthday Satellite
October 5, 2007

Yesterday was the 50th birthday of the launch of the first satellite. On October 4, 1957 the then Soviet Union launched the first satellite, which was called the Sputnik I.

The birthday of satellite went by without much fanfare from the industry because we now take for granted everything that the satellites in the sky bring to us every day.

Earlier this year I was honored to be part of this satellite history and meet many of the pioneers of satellite at a special Satellite Pioneers Dinner, which was held in Atlanta. Many of the pioneers of satellite were honored including Sir. Arthur C. Clarke, Bob Cooper, Bob Taggart, Al Gore, Charlie Ergen, Buddy Davis, Ted Turner, among others.

Sitting side by side with some of these folks was like a dream come true for a satellite junkie like me, and I was also honored to be able to accept Charlie Ergen’s pioneers award on the behalf of Mr. Ergen at this event.

So while not many folks took notice of this important birthday yesterday I wanted to say a moment to say Happy Birthday Satellite, and thank you to those pioneers who worked to make this industry everything it is today.

No TBS HD On Dish Network Yet…

DISH Network customers were once again not able to view last nights Major League Baseball playoffs in high definition as DISH Network has still not added TBS HD to its lineup.

However DISH Network baseball fans did get a look at how the games looked in HD as TBS moved one of its games to TNT HD as the game which was on TBS HD was running long.

DIRECTV Adds Another HD Channel

DIRECTV customers woke up on Thursday Morning with another HD channel in their lineup. The satellite company quietly launched MHD, the music video channel which shows the best HD content from MTV, VH1 and CMT.
