Satellite Radio, Google Phone News & DirecTV Demo Available
November 5, 2007
According to reports it appears that the head of the department of justice will approve the merger between Sirius satellite radio and XM.
It was reported last week at orbitcast.com that it appears that Thomas Barnett, Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice Antitrust Division will approve the Sirius-XM merger.
It has been over 10 months since both satellite companies have announced their plans for the merger.
I was excited when I first heard details of the merger, however that excitement soon faded when it was announced that both companies would continue to run as separate companies. I personally was looking forward to them freeing up bandwidth by eliminating some of the duplicated content. But now it appears both services will continue to run the channels much as they are today.
I am a subscriber to both services and just want to see the decision from both the DOJ and FCC to come soon so both companies can move ahead instead of staying in the holding pattern them seem to be in now.
Google Introduces Android
With the introduction of the Apple Iphone, many technology fans have been waiting for Google to introduce their own phone.
Today the big announcement came, but it was not a Google Phone, instead it is a new cell phone platform called Android. Android is a project of the Open Handset Alliance which is currently made up of 34 of the leading technology companies, including NVIDIA, Intel, Motorola and Qualcomm.
The promise of Android is to let people do what they want on their cell phones. We could see Android enabled phones in early 2008.
As one who uses a Windows Mobile phone, I would be interested in seeing what Android can bring to the table that the Windows Mobile platform can not do now.
DirecTV On Demand Demo Now Available
For those folks who have not seen DirecTV’s new On Demand, you can now see a demo of the new service at http://www.directv.com/ondemand
The new On Demand service is slowly being rolled out across the country to those DirecTV customers with a HR-20 HD DVR. On Demand uses the customers’ broadband Internet connection to download movies, shows and specials.
Initial reviews of DirecTV On Demand on the Internet have been extremely positive.
