TI's DOCSIS Guy Now Cable Europe Labs' CTO

June 17, 2009

Peter Percosan, previously Texas Instrument’s top ambassador to the cable industry, has taken on a new gig as chief technology officer of Cable Europe Labs.

The new job’s going to require just a bit of air travel for Percosan, who has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“Monday was my first day in the office … which is in Brussels,” Percosan wrote in an e-mail. “However, I will ‘dual home’ in San Francisco and likely Paris.”

Cable Europe Labs — in a role similar to its U.S. counterpart, CableLabs — calls itself the “technical centre of excellence” for the European cable industry, conducting research on emerging technologies, developing standards for cable technology and certifying vendor equipment.

Percosan, as executive director of broadband strategy for Texas Instrument’s Digital Connected Home business, was a ubiquitous presence promoting cable’s DOCSIS 3.0 technology and the silicon his company sells to power next-gen cable modems. (See Cable Show 2009: TI Ships 1 Million DOCSIS 3.0 Chips.)

Now he’ll be digging deeper into EuroDOCSIS 3.0, not to mention, I would guess, some Belgian moules et frites. (Strictly analog, those.)

Backgrounder: Cable Europe Labs is part of Cable Europe, a trade association comprising the continent’s broadband cable TV operators representing more than 73 million customers and other groups (including CTAM Europe). The labs group was previously known as EuroCableLabs, or ECL, and was renamed last fall to be consistent with the parent group’s moniker.
