Verizon Joins TV Interface Group
Verizon has joined the RVU Alliance, formed by DirecTV, Cisco, Samsung and Broadcom, whose goal is to create a standard for rendering “pixel accurate” user interfaces on compatible consumer-electronics devices (see The Itinerant TV Interface).
So far, no cable operators have jumped into RVU (say it “r-view”).
Joining the RVU Alliance gives Verizon “the chance to help lead the industry to an ever-simpler process for integrating consumer electronics into the home entertainment experience,” Verizon CTO Richard Lynch said in announcing the telco’s participation.
The RVU companies say they’re using the DLNA home-networking technology as a foundation for their proposed spec.
Verizon has joined as an RVU “founding promoter,” which costs $15,000 annually.
