The Week in Numbers

January 29, 2010

Some key stats and figures from the past week:

* 105,000: Number of basic video customers Time Warner Cable lost in Q4 (see Time Warner: Subs Down, Dividend Up In Q4).

* 153,000: Net adds for FiOS TV in the fourth quarter — but that’s well off Verizon’s pace in the first half of 2009 — bringing the telco to 2.9 million total video subs (see FiOS Hits Brakes At End Of 2009).

* $3 billion: Amount AT&T’s annual run rate for U-verse TV, Internet and voice services is nearing; that’s still less than 5% of wireline segment revenue.

* 100 million: Number of entertainment devices (i.e., set-tops) Motorola has shipped in its history, dating back to General Instrument days. There’s a timeline here.

* 500,000: Netflix spinoff Roku says it’s sold at least this many Internet-video set-top boxes, and expects to sell 1 million this year (see Roku Has Sold 500,000 Internet Set-Tops, Eyes IPO).

* $1.60: Amount per share of TWC’s annual dividend, which helped send the MSO’s stock price up more than 6% (see Time Warner Cable Stock Soars).

* 2,000: The number of DOCSIS 3.0 subscribers TWC signed up in Q4 in New York, the first month the 50-Mbps service was available (see Time Warner Cable Powers Up Wideband In Big Apple).

* 200 Million: NBC Universal’s projections for the number of viewers who will watch some portion of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, which begin Feb. 12 (see Vancouver Projections: 200 Million Will Watch NBCU’s Olympic TV Coverage).

* 1.2 million: Number of viewers (live + same-day DVR) for Starz’s Jan. 22 premiere of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, according to the network (see ‘Spartacus’ Premiere Slays 1.2 Million Viewers). Viewership was expected to top 4 million including additional weekend airings on Starz and Encore, Starz.com viewership and on-demand/online previews with affiliates.

* $22 million: Value of Time Warner Inc. chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes’ total pay package (see Bewkes Gets 17% Pay Bump).

* $499: Starting price of a Wi-Fi-only Apple iPad. An “unbelievable” price, Apple says. I agree.
