Sons of Anarchy: One Tough Momma
Is there a tougher mother on television than Katie Sagal playing Gemma Taylor Morrow on FX’s biker saga “Sons of Anarchy?”
In last week’s season opening episode, Gemma was violently chained, beaten and raped by white supremacists trying to send a message to her husband, Clay, the president of the SOA motorcycle club.
How bad was it. She’s got stitches, bruises, and “some tearing,” according to Dr. Tara, maybe Gemma’s future daughter-in-law.
Gemma’s never been one to take even the smallest slight sitting still but how does she react to this terrifying assault?
With silence. At least for now.
She doesn’t tell her husband. Or her son. And she has Tara, Police Chief Unser and the new nanny guarding her secret. (Except the nanny is reporting back to Alan Arkin, playing Ethan Zobelle, the head of the supremacists.)
Arkin’s character had expected the attack on the matriarch to goad the bikers to go off half-cocked so he can snap their spokes. But Gemma’s silence foiled his plan.
“What does it mean?” he is asked by one of his supremacist goons.
“It means we underestimated Mrs. Morrow,” Arkin says.
Lesson learned: Never Underestimate Mrs. Morrow.
Future lesson: What happens to people who take on Gemma. I can’t wait because it won’t be pretty for Arkin and the rest of the neo-Nazis.
Meanwhile, wasn’t it fun to see Tom Arnold as a low-rent porn producer?
