Viewers Demand Imus
Still can’t get over the dozens of “Talk Back” responses from the story we first posted Friday about MSNBC considering Joe Scarborough as a replacement for Imus In The Morning.
While some Multichannel News readers are debating whether MSNBC should go with Joe Scarborough, David Gregory or another anchor, the majority of the readers posting feedback say they want MSNBC to bring back the I-Man.
I won’t criticize the decision from NBC News to cancel Imus In The Morning, but I miss the show. Not for the politically incorrect jokes and skits that got Imus canned, but for the interviews Imus conducted.
Imus had a knack for getting his interview subjects to drop their guard, and share stories you wouldn’t hear on another program. When interviewing New York Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas Friedman, Imus got the Middle East expert to spend much of his time talking about playing golf in a desert (Friedman brings his clubs all over the world).
Imus liked to talk to Tim Russert about his dad, and we preferred hearing the NBC News Washington bureau chief and Buffalo native talk about “Big Russ” than politics.
During early morning interviews with NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell, Imus would focus a good chunk of time asking Mitchell about her husband, former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan. “Is Al
still in his pajamas?”
I think many Imus fans continue to gripe about his absence from MSNBC mainly because there isn’t a similar alternative on any other network in the morning. Would NBC News president Steve Capus ever bring back Imus to appease the viewers demanding his return? Doubt it. But when you read comments about viewers boycotting MSNBC and its advertisers until Imus In The Morning is revived, it makes you wonder …
pam commented:
Morning joe is pathetic. How can the executives at MSNBC replace the I-Man with such nonsense? What are they thinking? Morning Joe needs to go back to Scarbough Country. Bring back the I-Man (with cast and crew) to early morning broadcast. If things stay the way they are, switch the channel and boycott all MSNBC sponsors!
Popsikle commented:
Frig it...Mainstream media is real close to a thing of the past ..Imus never belonged there anyway.
Island Mom commented:
it's September and still not Imus!!!!!
azwildcat commented:
Bunch of losers at msnbc. I haven't watched since Imus left. That also is the way i feel about snake Williams. He had alot to do about Imus being fired.
ChuckD commented:
I always told Imus, "You gotta fight the Power, you gotta fight the power that be." Now all manner of mayhem broke lose for MSNBC, the NBC Nightly News, ect. Now Obama put his foot in it, and has to live with it, for as long as he lasts in the primaries. Iman is power. The people's power.
LJ in NH commented:
Nothing worth listening to in the morning now. NPR is OK, but I really need IMUS with the primaries approaching. No one else seems capable of interviewing the candidates like IMUS did. And to you who appeared on his show and then jumped ship, you are failures as human beings and friends.
Bobbie Reinecker commented:
Since NBC token, Al Roker, and MSNBC fair-haired Keith Oberman have proved how easily one can say things not meant to be taken out of the context they were delivered, why can't we have the I-Man back? He, at least, can deliver the goods.
homer commented:
OKAY, IT'S LATE JULY SO ENJOY THE NEXT MONTH MR. IMUS BECAUSE IT'S TIME TO GET OFF YOUR SKINNY BUTT AND GET BACK TO WORK.
Irene commented:
Please, Please can you PLEASE bring the I-man back! My husband is driving me crazy. He keeps saying he needs an Imus fix. He misses him terribly and so do I.
DanFL commented:
Sure, he needed to be publicly shamed for the comment, but he's still the best thing going on American talk radio. A truly good person, who makes the occasional stupid remark. The only difference between he and most of us is that he spends a good chunk of time on the air while we can just move on after our stupid statements. What really heals racism is understanding and compassion, and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't seem to get that. Imus on the other hand, is still right on top of that. I hope he makes a comeback.
Mike commented:
Morning TV is tedious, unfunny and boring without Morning RADIO'S greatest--John Donald Imus. Bring him back--NOW!!!!!!!!
lynna217 commented:
i am still lost in the morning with out imus.can't watch anything just scroll thru the channels bring him back
Jill commented:
Still not watching MSNBC, CBS or NBC.
Harley commented:
If you are in NYC on the 29th join the Imus Rally! See supportimus.org, imustruth.com, and donimus.org for MORE details!
Aime commented:
PLEASE BRING IMUS BACK!
Steve commented:
MSNBC should beg Imus to come back. They're not going to get any audience with the stuff they'cve had on the last few months. They are beginning to make Fox & Friends look good.
leswright commented:
I don't have anything to add to the hundreds before me. I will not watch MSNBC, nor will I patronize any of the companies that turned their backs on Don Imus. This is all nonsense, Imus needs to be back on the air in some way. Make it happen. Whoever does gets my full support. Imus was a bright spot in my life.
Harley commented:
Yall come join the fun on supportimus.org, donimus.org, and imustruth.com! Let's work TOGETHER to get the I-man back on the air!
Pamela commented:
A lot of mornings I put on a videotape of a past Imus show just so I can watch him. It helps a little bit but not enough. I saw just a tad of Morning Joe the other day and boy is it awful, "just awful" as someone I love would say :) Does anybody know anything else we can do to get Imus back?
Mary Beth Morrow commented:
For the love of God, please somebody, bring Imus back to us. I cannot shake the depression I have felt since April and my days are ruined without Imus.
irene dunaway Miami Florida commented:
I am not much good at computers and have not had too much experience on the net; i am elderly but young at heart for sure. I Didn't always agree with Mister Imus but I loved him dearly and always will, I trusted him to get my news and the truth Sincerely, Mrs. Irene Dunaway Miami Florida
A J McCravy commented:
If we got rid of everyone on radio or television who offended someone, there wouldn't be anybody left. Still tryin to figure out why Imus in the Morning "had" to be taken off air and still missing the I...Man terribly.
Elaine commented:
How come Al Roker still has a job (he said something HORRIBLE), Al SHARPTON still has a radio show (some of his comments---deplorable) and Don Imus is gone. Can someone see through this blatant hypocrisy and explain this to me. I'm waiting for Imus to return. Nothing else will do, nothing else is acceptable whatsoever.
mar commented:
maybe it's good that Mr. Imus was cancelled. As I now have to really read the washington post, new york times, l.a. times, etc... to get a balanced view of what's going on in our nation and world. before i would simply set my tvo to record from 3:00 to 6:00 pacific time(i live in CA) and would only watch Imus throughout the day.....Currently my tv is only turned on to watch CSI.....
Jeannette commented:
Ok, I am quite enjoying not having the TV on or the radio. I'm getting my info from on line and will continue to do so until the I-man resurfaces. I will not "eventually" return to MSNBC, CBS, or NBC. The only exception will be to watch tennis. Waiting for the I-man...........
saad-o commented:
I admit to sneaking a look-in at Morning Blow (10 mins, max). Remember how Imus & Lou laughed about Scarborough being "train-wreck TV"? OMG, it is awful beyond description. This is messNBC's top candidate for a "replacement"? They can not suck enough, or turn off the transmitter fast enough. BTW, Gerry, Amy R was on Thurs morning; she is looking fffffffine. I hope someone steals her away from NBC so I can watch more.
Gerry K commented:
How is Amy Roback looking? I havn't seen her for two months.
Julie commented:
My area of the country never had 'Imus in the Morning' on the radio but when MSNBC began to simulcast the program from WFAN, I began watching and did so every day until he was fired. The program was my 'wake up and get going to work' program for over 10 years. If I had to leave early, I taped the program to watch later in the day. These last two months, without Imus, Charles, Bernie, Lou, Chris, Rob and Larry have been miserable. There needs to be a stronger word to describe Al Roker than hypocrite! I continue to choose not to watch MSNBC, NBC, CBS; listen to WFAN, buy products from Proctor & Gamble, GE or GM, Staples, Verizon, Nextel or American Express.
my mother's daughter commented:
My mother is devastated that Imus in the morning is not on tv anymore. My grandmother and uncle watched it too. I never watched it but I'm sad for my family members who lost a great part of their mornings each day. I don't much see the fairness of removing the show. I hope their ratings go down in the gutter.
Katelyn Denise Robb commented:
Wait a minute, Imus did a lot of good for charties, SIDS, kids w/ cancer, autism. Al Roker is just making fun and poking fun of cripple kids. What's wrong with this picture people?
joel commented:
please bring the iman back to radio and television
Anna McLean, esq. commented:
I am an attorney and I have one headache after the other each day. Imus' broadcast was something I enjoyed listening to as I was driving to work and now I have nothing worth listening to. I am boycotting MSNBC, CBS, Proctor and Gamble, Staples and anyone else I deem a traitor of Mr. Imus.
martha ruth commented:
I used to look at Imus in the morning and now I just shut off my tv and won't watch anything else in the mornings. I'm sad about losing the I man and he seemed like my friend each morning. his show was good. I sure do wish it was back on the air.
Lucinda Howard commented:
I am a die-hard Imus fan and my life has been distressing since Imus was taken off air. Is there anything I can do to persuade somebody, ANYBODY, to please put this man back on? Oh and I am offended by Al Roker's TERRIBLY INSENSITIVE comments but I don't see that his a** has been fired! What a double standard. Where is Al Sharpton, calling for the resignation of Roker? It's just SICK and SO unfair. Bring Don Imus back NOW!
JoeMac commented:
With a mother and brother who have suffered from epilepsy I am outraged at Al Roker's "joke". However, I am even more outraged at the double standard that applies to Al as opposed to Imus. Al set a standard in his blog back in April regarding Imus, lets see Al live up to his own standards.
imusfan commented:
I am a 26 yr old graduate student who has spent every morning for the last ten years either listening to Imus on the radio or watching he and the gang on MSNBC. The entire situation is an outrage and I have not watched (nor plan to) MSNBC since. My mornings have not been the same since. Al Sharpton and his crew of pathetic media hounds have successfully used Imus as a martyr to further their own hipocritical agenda. Bring Imus back before these idiots take over America!!!
Junebug commented:
I never liked some of the sophomoric humor of the show, but I loved the musical entertainment, the way Imus interviewed politicians, reporters, etc. Being a wife of a retired veteran, I especially enjoyed the way Imus brought the problems of the VA and the military hospitals to the limelight. Unfortunately, now no one is keeping the light shining on it. What he said was wrong, however, I doubt that one member of that basketball team ever heard of him before it was brought to their attention. He is not and never has been a racist because he made comments during the same week which stated how glad he was that his son's generation is so multicultural, never mind interviewing all colors of people and having children of all colors come to his ranch. It is total hypocrisy and the bigwigs folded when they should have stuck with the original decision to suspend him. He wanted to make his show better and more diverse, and now they are sinking while trying to do it with someone else. Serves them right, and I hope another channel will pick him up because mornings are not the same without him. I am a 59 year old woman and can't stand to watch MSNBC anymore!
Albina commented:
Ree, I have been following it also just because Imus brought it to our attention otherwise I wouldn't have known about it. Thank God, because I had a granddaughter at the time Imus was talking about the mercury in the vaccines and I made sure my granddaughter did not receive vacines with mercury (thermerasol-did I spell that right?). Imus brought issues to our attention that no other media outlet did. I do work with a woman who's daughter was normal up until her 2nd birthday when she received her next set of vacines and now she is autistic. When her son was born, she was so afraid that she told the schools that he couldn't get the vacines because of religious beliefs. It's sad you have to lie. Thanks to Imus my mind rests alot easier with my granddaughter.
Ree commented:
Todays news and different outlets, the account, I read was the Denver Post about the people with children, with Autism going to have their day in court, they want the court to find out if the perservative in childhood vacines is causing a rise in Autism rates among American Children. Imus and Crew have to be happy knowing that, even if they were taken off the Air, the Issue is still going forward and still in the public eye. Even if the US Congress wouldn't include this in the Autism Bill.
Linda commented:
I would like a list of the sponsors that weighed in to get Imus off the air. I understand that Sharpton and others threatened to boycott their products, well maybe its time for the Imus fans to do the same. Lets all boycott them and MSNBC until Imus is back on the air. I believe that there were more people who wanted him to stay on the air than those who wanted him off.
Patsu commented:
Please bring Imus back! He cannot be replaced.Mornings have not been the same! I miss the Iman.Joe is boring! I havent watched MSNBC from 6-9 am since Imus was taken off the air. It is unfair for Imus to be taken off because he was repeating something that was spoken by many black Rap singers. Please bring him back! His show is educational,Ive learned a lot from listening to Imus, he tells you things ,that you might not know. There is only 1 Imus, and I think that if they dont bring him back on MSNBC , that Fox or CNN might pick him up, and if they do, that will be a great loss for MSNBC. So all you big shots ,had better think it over and do something soon.
Linda commented:
I don't know about many of you but I go to the same places to eat most of the time and they have TVs on. Because I know them I asked them to change the channel if it's on MSNBC or CBS, they ask why and I get into it. They actually change the channel and they are going along with the boycott. Some of them were Imus listeners or have family memebers that listened and are upset he is off the air. I noticed that someone always knows someone that watched and listened to Imus. So if you go to a place with TVs you might what to ask them to change the channel and then start a dialogue about Imus...works every time. Oh, and then I tell them to go to supportimus.org to vote. I write in on napkins so they don't forget. Word of mouth is the best! Stay strong...boycott MSNBC, CBS and all that are involved doing this to our Man! The lists of sponsers, etc to boycott really come in handy. I hand them out to family and friends...thanks!
Suzan R, Toronto, ON commented:
Ditto to all comments (but the one negative post, of course). I'll just add: What happened to Imus was so unfair that it still fuels my upset EVERY DAY. I want him back on the air - any place, any time, any how. Like others, my mornings suck now. I had no idea how much I would miss his program, and took for granted that it would be there every morning. Whatever time I managed to wake, the FIRST move I would make was to tune into Imus. Some mornings, I'd wake in a panic, afraid that I'd missed something. MSNBC is dead to me, with my other religiously watched program, Countdown, becoming collateral damage. I MAY have continued to watch Keith IF he had not turned out to be such a hypocritical, back-stabbing jerk. Imus is the real deal. Give him back to us - we like the real deal.
james commented:
Bring Back The I man.
Imus Fan commented:
Is Big Pharma, holding the Networks down? Imus spoke out loudly about children's vacinations...Is it Big Pharma, keeping CBS NBC and MSNBC in the position they are in? tied their hands. Imus shot straight on so many concerns of Americans and their children..somebody has their foot on these network's necks, it doesn't make any sense not to put a high ratings show back on the air, when there is such a high demand IF something nefarious isn't going on. Why isn't anyone investigating or reporting on this? The whole issue of Imus has gotten a real superficial treatment, in the mainstream media. Was Imus the only one that would report on the powerful?
R from Maine commented:
Bring Imus back!!! I haven't seen a decent news broadcast since the last morning Imus was on MSNBC. Shame on the cowards who didn't stand up for the I-Man. I miss my mornings filled with credible news, awareness raising of issues and conditions needing the attention of Americans, interesting interviews with knowledgeable folks and belly laughs brought on by the ridiculous antics of Imus and his crew. As Americans, we need to continue our push to reinstate Imus, Bernard and the rest of his crew. WE have the right to determine what we listen to!!!!I haven't watched MSNBC, CBS or NBC since this all happened. Shame on those who benefited from the exposure they got from Imus and then bailed when things got hot. I need the old show back with great news, book reviews, music recommendations and humor. Let's keep up the noise so our mornings won't be so depressing!!!
Ree commented:
Come Home Imus,we miss you, ad bring Bernie, Deidra, Charles,Chris, Lou,Rob,Bo ect.. with you "Are You Alright" MSNBC,CBS,NBC,can't make us all go to REHAB. At somepoint Americans have to stand up and say no more of this BS.,unless your somekind of robot, your capable of forgiveness.

***********From FTVLive:************** Race to the Bottom of the ratings In a race to the bottom of the ratings, Katie Couric is winning but Brian Williams is coming on fast. ABC’s “World News” was the No. 1 evening newscast last week, while NBC’s “Nightly News,” which in recent weeks hit its lowest numbers in 20 years, was No. 2. CBS’ “Evening News” also hit record lows. ***************************************** The boycott is working! It’s no coincidence that Brian Williams’ Nightly News is the lowest it’s been in 20 years. When Imus supported Nightly News, it was the #1 news program–now look at it! I don’t miss watching any NBC or CBS programming—I want to see them lose their jobs as Imus and Bernie did. Buy IMUS products—they are healthy and work better than anything else. Keep boycotting NBC/MSNBC/CBS–their shows are awful anyway! *****Imus will be redeemed. ***** *****The rest will be sorry.*****
Rick B, from NH. commented:
MSNBC anc CBS should set the standard in defining a new direction for talk radio. Don Imus was way ahead of the curve and spoke of redefining the show, after the controversy blew over. Unfortunately, CBS executives lack the backbone to "boldly go where no one has gone before", but rather chose to cave-in to self-serving extremists. Shame on them! How many millions($)have these extremists raised, or gave out of their own pocket, to support our troops, or sick and dying children? Imus provided an intelligent forum for political issues of the day, among the many other gifts he gave to his listening audience. No such entertaining forum exists today! Don't the executives understand the vaccuum that exists here? Tell the extremists to "buzz off", bring IMUS back, and watch the ratings soar. Do both things as publicly as possible and the maximum results will be achieved. I'll be supporting the sponsors who show the courage to back the program, too.
Andrea commented:
It's been 54 days now and we are not going away! Please bring Imus home to WFAN. CBS, Imus has been with you for so long he's like family and families fight and make up and life goes on. You know he's a good man. Imus has been nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2007. This alone let's you know what his peers think of him. Unfortunately his fans can't vote. Imus is a great humanitarian. Please do the right thing and bring Imus home and don't let egos, etc get in the way. Will continue boycotting everyone and everything that hurt a member of our family - Imus!
M Schmitt commented:
YES, we do demand Imus! This was one of the worst mornings yet for tv viewing. Nothing on the radio where I live either but stupid local stuff. The only time I've gotten a good laugh lately was watching Imus and gang on Youtube. I just ordered my Imus t-shirt from Merch Up and there are comments from elderly people about how they are sick in bed and Imus was the best part of the day; without Imus there is no reason to wake up, etc. I happen to have an autistic child and need him back on the air for these kids. People are getting seriously depressed! I personally have been totally distracted by this whole mess. Please, CBS or someone do the right thing here and get the man back on the air.
Imusfan commented:
So if Morning Joe says, works the pole that is GOOD and if Imus says, Nappy Headed Hos thats BAD. Okay I will write it down so I don't forget. PC when it is convienent anyone?

I support the I-Man, who is grouchy but HONEST. That's more than I can say about the weasel so called journalists he gave a platform to every Monday morning (ie Newsweek).

The great Don Imus has been nominated for a lifetime achievement award in radio.
Molly H - NC commented:
Listen to me. We NEED Imus back on the air to stand up to the bad guys. We need Imus back to defend himself from all the lies but also to defend us, the fans. It is criminal that he was fired. I hope heads roll because it was a mistake and someone must pay. It's great to see all the women here! I'm thrilled to have fellow female fans out there. Keep up the good work ladies. Keep up the boycotts.

Imus has been nominated for a lifetime achievement award for Radio, this is on the New York Fesitval site. Michelle Malkin, is covering Joe Scarborough on her online blog, she has posted youtube video of Joe talking about Fred Thompson's wife being on the Pole, as in a Pole Dancer...Michelle mentions Imus got fired for insensitive comments about women, is it alright for Joe to do the same and he doesn't have to apologize?
Karen commented:
I want the Iman and the team back! What happened to him was disgraceful and completely unwarranted. To think this was brought about by the likes of Sharpton and Jackson! I've listened to Imus since he first landed in NYC. He is no racist and has evolved considerably from his early days. The good he's done, the money raised for causes which benefit people of all races, the entertainment, the education, the opening up of all types of music which I never would have been familiar with...we've all lost alot. He, Chuck, Rob, Deidre, Fred, Wyatt and the rest have become such a part of my mornings they are all a part of my life. There's a huge void that no one can fill. I dreaded the day the I-Man would decide to hang up his cowboy hat and ride off into the sunset. This is unbearable! Bring Imus back and bring him back NOW!
Bobbie Reinecker commented:
As the days go on, I am getting more angry! This is not supposed to happen in America. Bring the I-Man back! The hypocrisy is killing me!!
weller commented:
What ignorant people don't understand is that IMUS would have promoted improving relations with "african americans" and whites. He was truly remorseful yet was tossed aside due to pressure from self promoting blowhards Sharpton and Jackson. All dogs have their day. I thought David Gregory was awful, arrogant and rude. He completely blew off Charles. MSNBC is a joke. Hope IMAN is taking it all in and preparing for his return. 30 year fan.

Takeisha Brianne Wilson commented:
I wasn't always crazy about what Imus said in jest, but I knew that it was sposed to be funny, not serious. What is serious? The fact that we seemingly have lost this great man to a buttload of hypocrites. Everyone, be afraid, be very afraid. Big Brother is watching (and censoring ) you.
Imus Fan Forever commented:
What part of "Bring Imus Back" do you not understand?
Mary commented:
I am writing to ask that you reinstate Don Imus to the Imus in the Morning time slot. If this is not the correct address, please forward my letter to the Powers that Be. Imus has millions of fans and they are no longer watching your station until he is brought back on. I could have understood the two-week suspension, but folks, you threw out the baby with the bath water here. I miss Imus so much and was a faithful viewer of MSNBC until you treated him like yesterday’s garbage. The man did so much good for so many causes and you treated him like dirt. There are a LOT of “unhappy campers” out here and we are not going away. Thank you for your time and attention. I will be back to watch MSNBC when I hear the good news that Imus will return (he probably won’t even accept your offer after the way you crucified him and left him for dead). Mary
Aline Scott-Anderson commented:
I am an attorney and would love to be handling Don Imus' lawsuit pro bono. He is legendary in the radio business and he's quite a good guy in what he does for causes and for being straight with his viewers and listeners. I am patiently waiting to hear that he is coming back in some way, shape or form. I would advise CBS to reinstate Mr. Imus or you are liable to be "taken to the cleaners" (which , I might add, you totally and completely deserve.)
Greg Greene, CT commented:
As Imus would say " you can't make this up!" Let me make this very clear: I will go where Imus is. End of story.
David L. commented:
Ok. Tucker was on, "Morning Joe", Gregory, and then I heard that Morning Joe was the replacement, then Mike and a Mad Dog, what the sam hill is going on at msnbc and WHERE IS IMUS? When are you going to bring back Imus? I do not understand this crap.
Barbara commented:
You know, I'm surprised that they didn't put Al Sharpton on in the mornings, as much as they "cowtow" to him. In all of my posting and reading on the net, I have not see one positive, kind thing written about the "Rev". I hold his accountable for what has happened with Imus. Imus didn't owe Sharpton any kind of apology. And I have read comments made by Sharpton, he still has HIS radio show? WHEW this is just revolting.

Does anyone know when Imus is going to be back? We're talking about an American Icon here folks. I listened to him for years...we got him here in NC on the radio and TV, lucky for me. I could listen at home and when I travel for work.
Rose commented:
WTH is it with Tucker now. Is MSNBC confused? I sure hope so. Bet they didn't expect the drop in viewership when they cut ties with Imus. They act like someone with a concussion...dazed and confussed with double vision. MSNBC needs to take a deep breath, shake it off and get Imus back......

Good morning: I am an African-American woman and the sun rose and set in Don Imus. I could cut past the 'humor' and see the real Imus who had a big heart. My days are dark now and the joy has gone out of my mornings with out Don Imus. To who this may concern, you have broken my heart much much more than any of the I Man's comments about any race whatsoever. I would like to beg for his return.
Granny commented:
bring imus back, please. you are hurting all of us by him being pulled off the air. i used to cut on msnbc in the mornings but now my tv is off. i don't want to look at any other show but imus, i'm old and i need the imann around.
Kelsey Ann Jamison commented:
These people didn't take into account that a huge majority of Imus' viewers are women: intelligent, caring, MAD women who are going to let our feelings be made known by hitting them in the wallet. Keep fighting this fight to get Imus back somewhere so that he can continue to tell us the truth...and so he can continue his good charity work.
Kathy commented:
I agree with these comments. They didn't even have the courtesy to let Imus finish his telethon (which, by the way, made over 4 million dollars) I am never buying another Proctor and Gamble item again as long as I live---and my husband and I spent a lot of money on P and G products. We are angry fans who are not going to go away. Please, anyone who cares about Don Imus, write to MSNBC, CBS, NBC, Proctor and Gamble, Staples and American Express to let them know that you support Imus and that you are boycotting them until h___ freezes over.
Stacy L commented:
We the people should take this country back from the wealthy and elitist few who screw us daily. They pulled the plug on a radiothon for sick children. To me, thats the punishable offense, right there. I loathe the bastards who went after Imus and have no respect for those who didn't stand up for him.
Dave Y commented:
Anastasia, thanks for pointing out that P & G also makes paper products like Bounty - I was stuck on cleaning products. Proctor and Gamble thoughtfully put a "P & G Brand Saver" insert into my Sunday paper - I'm putting it aside, it's going to be a handy reference.
Michelle S commented:
What a disgrace Les Moonves of CBS and Steve Capus of NBC are to fire this living legend for no reason. My grandson is autistic and we need this good man's voice! You are selfish, selfish people. I will never buy another Proctor & Gamble product, ever.

If Sharpton can get on the Today Thow at the drop of a hat to complain about imus then why doesnt he get on the Today Thow to complain about the hip hop, racist, female degredation, crap that they are pedaling. He said he was against that too, I guess if you own stock in companies that make it you pretty much just want them to make money... hipocrit , felon and liar, and we just give in to this P.C., dont hurt anyones feelings crud, SHAME ON US!

Cathy commented:
Bring Imus back!!! I have not watched CBS or MSNBC since he was fired. He had an entertaining and informative show and great interviews. Also, I will not buy products of companies that pulled their advertising from his show. The executives at MSNBC need to realize that he is irreplaceable, that they made a mistake, apologize to him and put him back on the air! If a large number of people email the executives at MSNBC perhaps it will make a difference.
zach commented:
I work at Rutgers and am also a fan of Don Imus. What he did was completely out of line, but I don't think it warranted firing the man, especicially during the radiothon! I haven't watched MSNBC nor will I. It would be such a pleasure to have Imus back on the air- where else can you find someone unafraid to say things that everyone else is thinking? What else can you hear Dick Cheney referred to as a war criminal? Without Imus the radiowaves are full of mostly pandering pundits without any real insight!

I know that all of you fans are loyal and that you miss him so much. My life is not the same anymore.

If you want to help the Imus Ranch, go to www.imusranchfoods.com ; I buy things there monthly and all the money goes to help Don and Deirdre Imus with those kids who come there in the summer and have cancer. They took this great man away from us but they are keeping a "war criminal" (Cheney) and the village idiot (Bush) in the Oval Office. It doesn't make sense to me, not any of it. I'm mad and tired of this crap.

THANK YOU ANASTASIA!Your words are kind. I appreciate your post so much. Lots of people are hurt over this way more than anyone who heard Imus' comment. This is having a residual effect on people and is harmful and unfair. Thank you again for your nice comment!

It's good to see the support that IMUS has. I hope he is monitoring the different sites and reading the posts. He was always grumpy and acted like he really didn't care about what his listeners thought, but my hope is that he is takinf some solace in knowing that he is LOVED and MISSED terribly. Many of os who have been loyal fans are experiencing something very similar to the death of a loved one. There is such a void that nothing seems to be able to fill. He's got to come back!!!

Janet commented:
Wow, who knew there were so many female Imus and Bernie fans? No wonder everyone is still upset...we women do not like being betrayed and that is what NBC/CBS did to us. I've been on my own crusade against Proctor & Gamble, American Express, Staples, CBS and NBC so I'm thrilled to find out I'm not the only one.

Like those people who never watched Imus parroting the media and saying that Imus got what he deserved, it looks like MSNBC and CBS are now getting what they deserve. As far as replacements, forget it. It took Imus to get me out of my habit of listening to my music collection on my morning commute. Now I'm back at it, so go ahead and spin your wheels.
Julie Stone commented:
I make 98% of the purchasing decisions in my household and I guarantee I will NEVER watch MSNBC again. I haven't gone near it since it cancelled Imus and when my local radio station simul-casts it, I turn off the radio. What is worse the way they treat the viewers that watched (past tense) MSNBC, the only feedback, I have gotten from the Lynching of Imus, is from Fox News. I wish someone with some authority at GE would do the right thing and bring back the talent and let the failed management at MSNBC go. Not watching, boycotting MSNBC/CBS/All Sponsors who deserted Imus in the Morning.
Cindy Feldman commented:
MSNBC is a joke...Has anyone noticed the ratings lately ?? Straight down the tubes..because nobody is watching..Really would not want the I-man to go back to MSNBC..they have shown their true colors and their stupidity..Seems like Capus and Abrams are playing the "how low can we go" game with their ratings...
Anastasia commented:
Ashley - I honestly know how your mom feels and it is depressing. My morning began with Imus since I got out of college to now, 17 years later. It is a hole in our hearts - it hurts! My parents, too, are in a state of shock that their fun in the morning is gone. It is hard not to be bitter towards the people who so unfairly took away our happiness in the morning. I encourage everyone to not to buy P&G products - Tide, Charmin, Pampers, Bounty - they have many items look at their website PG.com and leave a message while you're at it. I feel so helpless but at least this is something we can do to send a message.
Conny commented:
I used to dread the day when he would retire and was relieved when he signed on a new contract for three years. It was always hard to get through those weeks and days when he was off.. Imus has left an unbearable void in the mornings - please bring him back!!! I was only able to bear Morning Joe for five minutes today and five yesterday during the Dan Rather interview - what stupid, stupid questions J.S. asked. I agree with other posters who miss the candid interviews, you felt you were getting some real truths which is so hard to do on any medium today. I am also boycotting MSNBC and can't stand the sight of Tim Russert, who son Wyatt used to call "Uncle Tim".
Marguerite commented:
I watched Imus religiously. Now I do admit to looking in occasionally only to turn away. At least I have no expectation of entertainment from CNN. The Wall Street guy (Cramer?) was the nearest to being acceptable, but, like Imus, he was an individual with his own unique style and I think the dweebs who run MSNBC could not stand that he was not an automaton. Joe Scarborough will do whatever he is told because he was such a a big screw up in Congress (dead girl in your office is not a good reelection tactic). And David Gregory is not a person on whom a whole show can be based. Capupawuppa and Abramsiwumsi, give Imus what he wants and put him back on the air or your channel will continue to sink into oblivion.

I am huge fan of Imus in the morning with a long memory. I have watched NBC news since the days of Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, no more. My relationship with their News Division ended when AV Dork Steve Capus made the decision to fire Imus. Additionally, I am paying attention to the advertisers who bailed out on him. I was in the market for a new car and when GM bailed on him I bailed on the idea of a Colorado truck and purchased a Subaru wagon. I have replaced every product in my home that I can identify as being produced by P&G and no more office supplies for my business will be purchased at Staples. I dumped out of being a supporter of Media Matters and Hillary. I will work against Hillary in the upcoming campaign as I understand that Media Matters and Hillary appear to be the parties who organized the public lynching of Imus. I purchased my Imus Ranch products yesterday at Linens n Things and will continue to do so. I also understand there is a rally in New York on June 29th and I am planning to attend. The threatened Boycotts and overblown media attention given to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are nothing compared to the real boycotts that people appear to be pursuing against MSNBC, GM, P&G, Staples etc. By the way don't Jesse and Al owe an apology to those guys from Duke? When will that be happening I would love to see that on tv.

Lets all flood Fox News with letters asking them to give Don Imus a chance with his own show on Fox, we only know they are keeping tabs on their ratings increasing sinse Imus was fired and msnbc viewers going over to their channel now. What a joke these so called fill-ins for Imus are proveing to be, I click on msnbc just to see who the next loser is going to be for any particular week, trying to fill Imus's shoes, which will NEVER happen. Gang... I fully understand the purpose & reason behind the "boycott", but I do it a little differently.... I've made a conscious decision.... whenever I peek at MSNBC in the old Imus slot {I never have watched any of their other programming because it, well, sucks}, I note the advertisers who are supporting the newtork and utter refuse to have those products purchased for my family's use. I've switched cell phone providers, changed my choice for my next new car, and so on. Mo......you nailed it. Capus and his ilk were what Bernie told Hannity & Colmes...thumbsucking pansies under their desks frantically thumbing their Blackberries to coordinate a response to some race-baiters.

there was never a good enough excuse to fire him, it was blackballing at it's best...Joe McCarthy couldn't have done the lynching better....& there REALLY isn't a good enough reason to NOT bring Imus back....unless you give more value to "threaten" boycotts over REAL BOYCOTTS....stockholders need to look at management over at MSNBC/CBS...they seem to be the subject of quite abit of news lately & NONE of it is good....how does a REAL BOYCOTT feel Capus? still think Imus is racist or maybe it could be the "healers" of the black community? Nick D. commented:
Steve, "Imus In The Morning" is irreplaceable. You point out Imus' unique interviewing style...I point out he was also an instinctively good editor and, when he chose to expend the energy, an interesting moderator, too. MSNBC, a cable news outlet with a long history of bonehead programming, showed us all with their lame efforts to replace him that things simply haven't changed at all in this regard. David Gregory tried, but let's face facts: Imus knew Gregory was good for 3-5 minutes, tops...that's why he used him in the later portion of his first {after :05} block...so he could cut him off when his material ran out. Jim Cramer....painful to watch. Stephanie Miller? Might sound good on radio & cetainly more attractive on TV, but that was a radio show, period. And not particularly amusing, either. "Morning Joe"? Zzzzzzzzz. What was particularly interesting is MSNBC's attempts to make sure there was one black, one female, and don't let them do too much....smacked of tokenism far more demeaning that what got Imus canned. Also interesting was Tucker Carlson & Contessa Brewer's abject failure....something Imus predicted long ago {still chuckle about Imus' Carlson prediction when MSNBC hired the CNN reject: "You can time this with an egg-timer...."}...once again, the I-Man understood. I won't comment on the other failures MSNBC brought in {thus far} the Imus slot, because my thesaurus is older and doesn't have a lot of synonyms for "sucked". Imus will be back if he choose to....I predict it will be on the new Fox Biz Channel with a radio simulcast on Fox Talk, replacing "Brian & The Judge" in the mornings. And I'll be there listening.
Patty R commented:
No IMUS No PEACE!! Have refused to watch MSNBC since he left- basically because its programing has always been pathetic- including that back-stabbing, pompous Keith Olbermann. Tim Russett trying to sell his book on Chris Matthews?? Give me a break. Barnacle on Joe Scarborough? Traitors all! Imus should fix them all and go to FOX News. That's the only cable channel America watches anyway. I hate to admit it since I'm not that conservative- until I saw what the hypocrites and cowards of the New York liberal media elite did to Imus to shup him up. And that is what it was- pure censorship! It had nothing to do with the Rutgers ladies. It was just an excuse by Hillary's cronies and others to shut Don up. Wake up America! Speak truth to power forever, Don! We love you!
Bobbie Reinecker commented:
My husband and I want the I-man back, but I hope not on MSNBC. His absence there makes it glaringly obvious that they have no one worth listening to. He was, and is, too good at what he does to be affiliated with those blowhards who believe themselves to be the last word in news and politics. Imus could always put them in perspective for us. Thank you all for keeping the faith and working to bring him back. As life-long NBC people, we are finished with them. As for Morning Joe, don't quit your other job. We appreciate your standing up for Imus on the air (and even mentioning the seven second delay), but we cannot accept you as a token. Down with MSNBC, CBS, NBC, and all the sponsors who caved. I am enjoying reading about the crash. Long live the I-Man!

Simple equation: No Imus; No NBC/MSNBC/CBS in my house. Imus fans are loyal, as opposed to the phony, cowardly, self-promoting journalists and executives at the networks. Berniefan commented:
CBS and MSNBC really screwed up and they have no one to blame but themselves for lagging ratings. When they caved into the race baiter Al Sharpton, they lost me and my family has viewers! What CBS and MSNBC should have done, was gone with the 2 week supension and allowed cooler heads to prevail! I hope they are learning that there are more Imus fans than Sharpton fans!
Jeannette Sowles commented:
This is beautiful!!!!!!!! Thank you writing an article about Imus' suffering fans. We are longing to hear him again. MSNBC, CBS and NBC are OFF my TV set. I have learned SO much from listening to him. From the interviews to the books, to the music, to the COMEDY to his charitable work (which I supported, but would never have known about if not for him), there is NO ONE that can replace him. NO ONE. I also have not watched Brian Williams or Tim Russert since this debacle. And the only reason I turned on MSNBC was because of the IMAN. I will only watch Charlie Gibson on ABC. Any one that screwed Imus, I will boycott. I plan to go to NYC for the demonstration. AND to see LEVON. Just bought my tickets. Someone wise up and bring the IMAN back.

I miss Imus so much. I just read he looked terrible which is so upsetting. It is weird how much we can all miss someone we don't know. I guess when you spend 10 years, 5 days a week with someone, you feel like you know them. I can't get into any kind of routine in the morning. I'm not a morning person but Imus made me one - minute I woke up, I'd turn on Imus, Bernie and the boys. Now, I let the kids watch cartoons. My husband feels the loss too and refuses to watch any MSNBC anymore. He used to watch Keith Olberman but won't anymore after the way he attacked Imus. Same goes for NBC Nightly News and Meet the Press - don't watch anymore.

I'm watching Mike & Mike on ESPN until someone in his or her right mind brings Imus back on the air. By the way, when Imus appeared at two of his wife's recent booksignings, he looked absolutely terrible. If we feel this badly, imagine what this has done to him?
I-Lover commented:
Imus must come back so that my life can go back to normal! I'm still preoccupied and upset about the way he was treated. I'm young enough to be his daughter so to me, it feels like I've lost a parent! I started listening to him on the radio 13 years ago - I grew up with him. The way CBS/Sumner Redstone/Les Moonves and Steve Capus/Phil Griffin/Dan Abrams SCREWED him was wrong. WRONG. They had no reason to fire him. I want THEM fired. I want apologies to Imus and all of us who were affected by his unfair firing. It has been well over a month and if anything, I'm getting more pissed off every morning. Imus, have a great summer at the Ranch, but you MUST, MUST return in the Fall. Please. Pretty please. We need you.

In its knee jerk reaction, MSNBC did away with something special, intelligent, and real - Imus! He introduced the world to authors, journalists, and movers and shakers who had something intelligent to say. People of all ages, occupations, and income levels enjoyed every minute of his program. Watching the pathetic replacements over the last several weeks made it glaringly obvious just how special Imus is. Let's call it a day, admit that mistakes were made, and bring the man back! Some people just can't be replaced. What we have is just more hyped-drama, silliness, and senseless noise filling time slot. MSNBC has left us no alternative but to go away.

Imus Is worth his weight in gold!!! The fact that MSNBC/CBS shafted Imus is truly ignorant.Guess they have enough money to sustain their stupid decision . Trying to replace Imus with everybody except Mickey mouse, shows desperation on the networks part. The saying"A FOOL AND HIS MONEY ARE SOON PARTED" fits the description of MSNBC/CBS. It would behove them to fire themselves and get someone with common sence to run the network.I delight in watching them make fools of them selves by the sinking ratings that is going on, even as I write.

I think the way MSNBC treated Don Imus and Bernard McGuirk is despicable. I was a LOYAL fan of the "Today" show and the "NBC Evening News" for 20 years. My relationship with MSNBC, CBS and NBC ended when you terminated yours with Don Imus.
John S commented:
My wife and I watched Imus every morning and are still in shock he's gone. We truly miss him and the all of the guys. We both loved his show. My daughter and son-in-law watched every day too. We're hoping he'll come back soon.
DJ commented:
When I started watching Imus on MSNBC I soon left that channel on throughout the day and became a "regular". Often told others about how good the network was. But, they lost me for good - wrote to them as soon as they announced Imus' firing. The network that picks up his show when he returns will find a similar increase in viewership to that MSNBC gained and lost. Let's hope the new arrangement comes along before Don gets tired of all the BS. In the meantime, here's something more we can do. DaveY gave us this list of advertisers to boycott:"General Motors, Staples, GlaxoSmithKline, Sprint/Nextel, Petmed Express, American Express and Proctor and Gamble." Let's compile a complete list of advertisers who withdrew their sponsorship of Imus and a full list of the products they produce. Add that list to any emails we send out and ask friends to boycott those products until Imus is back and again has their sponsorship. Does anyone know of other sponsors that withdrew?
Rosie commented:
Please bring Imus back. There is no one like him and his interviews. I listened to him on the radio in Arizona 12 years ago and "Tivo"d him recently. I agree with everything M. Martin said - I will not be as well informed about political issues - Autism - sports - current events- The Sopranos - everything . There is NO replacement.
Harley Quinn commented:
Thanks Mr. Donohue for recognizing our cause! There are TONS of Imus' fans networking on he net on sites such as supportimus.org and imustruth.com! What ws done to the I-Man was horrible and he needs to be reinstated!
Susan Day commented:
Mr. Donohoe, I am surprised that you are surprised at the reaction of Imus fans. Imus is unique. Joe Scarborough is not going to bring the Imus fans who ditched the network (like me) back to MSNBC ever. I suppose it's possible that he or whoever else they might put on instead of Imus might replace the lost Imus The viewers by drawing from other networks or inducing people who don't watch morning television to tune in, but I doubt it. MSNBC, CBS and the sponsors who bailed out made a hasty and rash decision without thinking it through. They are probably just as surprised as you are, to their detriment.
Jackie Sandler commented:
Again the managers in the Telecommunications industry got it wrong. YOU THREW OUT THE BABY WITH THE BATH WATER. Get back to reality, stop kissing Al's butt and bring the I-Man back. AND........get over it!
Mark commented:
Please bring Imus back my wife is driving me crazy! She's boycotting everyone on a list, she's e-mailing anyone and everyone that created this mess. She never, ever blogged before now I can't get her off the computer! I am begging you please bring Imus back!
Marie H. Lee commented:
We want Imus back. None of the others come close to replacing him. No more MSNBC or CBS. No longer purchasing any products by his previous sponsors.
Nancy Schmitt commented:
I'm an early riser and loved being able to start the day with Imus. My husband and I could actually watch together. Now, what do I have JAG repeats? Someone please bring back Imus.
UPTom commented:
The Imus show was one of the only shows with news that allowed the interviewed person to discuss, at length, a topic with little or no interruption. Most shows of this ilk, the host is under time constraints that preculd a diffinitive response from the guest, or the host will not let the guest complete a thought. It has come to pass that, clever sound bites, and menipulating hosts is somebodies idea of information about the world around us. Give us back Imus.... please!
Ward commented:
Someone needs to tell Dan Abrams that Imus is irreplaceable so they should stop trying to replicate his show using the likes of "Morning Joe," Jim Cramer, Tucker and several other no-names. MSNBC is a joke, especially in the morning.
new yorker commented:
Add my voice to all the pro-Imus comments. No more Amex, P&G, NBC, etc. for me. It is a disgusting shame that virtually nobody in the media reports on what happened here: that Crapus and all of the other empty suits buckled to the Clinton campaign-inspired assasination of Imus. Please keep up, and expand upon, this reporting. We Imus fans are ignored because it's not PC to report on what happened and what is happening.
Jersey Bob commented:
The fun part is MSNBC and WFAN dual implosions. Predictable cycle; ratings down, revenue declines, losses, layoffs, lack of momentum, ratings down, etc.
Mary from WA commented:
I agree - no one can replace Imus for informative content.
Sam from Pa commented:
Scarborough??? Are you kidding me?? His dribble is too much to bear!!! I can't believe that guy considers himself a conservative. I think that MSNBC should put the red communist flag up and make it official. God what a horrible station. Kramer is the only host that made any sense at all.
Bob S commented:
I'm finished with CBS, MSNBC and the spineless sponsors that would not support the I-Man. Hey, why doesn't MSNBC or CBS put on the Rev Al or Jesse in Imus' spot! They could say whatever they want and wouldn't even have to apologize - or be fired! Wise up CBS and MSNBC and get the I-Man back to us.
Jack commented:
It took you this long to realize we want Imus back? Da
Susan commented:
Thank you for writing an article about all the people that miss Imus. There can never be a replacement for his show. I really miss it. I'm not buying P&G or using AMEX. I also will not watch MSNBC.
bob A commented:
IMAN for prezz
loyal imi commented:
Twelve years faithful viewer...it's about the interviews! I miss the news my way, the Imus way!
Michele G commented:
We Demand Imus! Yeah, but who is listening? I watched about 5 minutes of MJ this morning just to determine how pathetic Joe is and wasn't disappointed. He ruined a perfectly good interview w/ Dan Rather by interrupting him and saying something unrelated and stupid. The show is simply awful and won't last. Whatever, without Imus, it's all just background noise...nothing measures up. Imus in the Morning was the perfect blend of serious news w/ a healthy dose of humor thrown in for a wonderful ride every morning. Now we realize just how brilliant the show and Don Imus truly were when you try to watch the D-versions MSNBC is putting on or any of the other networks for that matter. I spent every morning for well over 10 years w/ the Imus gang and it is difficult to explain the void I'm feeling now. I'm not exaggerating. I loath Steve Capus and Les Moonves for being so weak and incompetent. Why did they do this to us? I feel personally betrayed by everyone who screwed Imus (too many to mention here. I can't help myself Tim Russert, Brian Williams, Harold Ford Jr. to name just a few of the back stabbers). Why were they so quick to screw all the children Imus helped? Why did advertisers such as Proctor & Gamble turn on him in a split Sharpton second? Is it politics behind it? If so, that is really frightening. I saw on the news last night where the people in Venezuela are rioting over Chavez's controlling their tv habits...will we be next? This is the same thing - someone else determining what we are to watch/listen to.
Robert Egan commented:
You're not paying attention. If you really listened to his interviews, you'd see that comments about "golf" or "pajama's) relaxes the guest in a way that results in a much more inciteful and honest interview than the "canned" questions yo get from other interviewers
Rich commented:
Add me to the list of wanting the IMAN and staffers back on. I also do not watch CBS/MSNBC anymore, plus do not buy any products from the advertisers. Put the IMAN back on and have your rating go back up.
Dave commented:
The whole body of philanthropic work that lost its voice (temporarily) was not even considered by those that orchestrated this firing for political purposes. Shame on all of them. Boycotting anyone associated with this mess.
Sr. Laurie commented:
Even my 69 year old mother is holding her own boycott of NBC/MSNBC until Imus returns. By firing him inspite of his apology and the good works he's always done, the network shut down any possibility of real dialogue about race and privilege. I'm sure Imus would have raised national consciousnesses the same way he did about SIDS, childhood cancers, autism and veterans' issues, calling on a cadre of experts in the field of race. All NBC/CBS/MSNBC is show that one perceived misstep by an individual is grounds for that individual's ruination!
Tom commented:
I am boycotting MSNBC/CBS until they prove they support free speech. For this author not to make any judgment on the firing of Imus is wrong. It is clear he should not have been fired. What he said was simply a bad joke and may have been hurtful. I still can not figure out the racial aspect of this besides that 75% of the women happen to be black. So I guess it was not hurtful to the 25% of white players on the team or the asian women.
Ed commented:
The Iman is missed. Most of my daily news and information on politial events came from his show everyday. The Iman blew just about every other host off the air. He spoke it the way it should be spoken when interviewing guests. He rarely backed down and got information that most other hosts could not. I Google "Imus" every day hoping to see that he's coming back. The day he does, that radio or TV station will have a dedicated listener.
Frec commented:
M. Martin's commentary says it all! If I could write as eloquently, that's what I would have said. The comments on this board are the just tip of the proverbial iceberg...
Marsha commented:
I continue to sorely miss Imus and his show. I used to tune in every morning, with pleasure. Was never disappointed. I haven't watched MSNBC since Imus's firing and I won't ever again unless he and his show are brought back.
Amy McKay commented:
I haven't watched a minute of MSNBC since Imus left. If they way they treated Imus is a true indication of decision-making skills, they have no backbone and are unethical - going where the money takes them - or sends them.
George commented:
I have been waiting since the day MSNBC fired Don Imus to hear from the millions of loyal listeners. Life is not the same without my morning dose of the I-Man. I have written to CBS and MSNBC, to no avail. We need to flex our collective purchasing and viewing muscles. It's time we respond to those two bigot, terrorist, self-serving thieves Jackson and Sharpton and not let them bully us around. Hey I-Man we're all still here. Screw all of those phoney bastards who jumped ship like drowning rats. BRING BACK DON IMUS !!!!!!
Mitch commented:
Won't watch MSNBC or NBC anymore. No time for the lily livered networks.
Dave Y commented:
The advertisers that folded like cheap suits were General Motors, Staples, GlaxoSmithKline, Sprint/Nextel, Petmed Express, American Express and Proctor and Gamble. A GM representative has since indicated that they would consider advertising on Imus' new show, so I may consider buying a new GM car by then, to match the last 3 I've had. What is Imus' best fit for his next show? Headline News? The new Fox Biz channel? Be nice to have a place where he could have coverage on the West Coast - MSNBC ran his show from 3 to 6 in the morning, so it was almost unknown there.
R. Long commented:
I miss the entire team. How do we get them back?
M Martin commented:
The thing I can't get over is that Mr. Imus was taken down by people who never listened to his show. It is painful to hear him repeatedly referred to as "shock jock" Don Imus. I learned so much from his show, on a daily basis. I heard Jon Meacham explain that Catholicism endures because one can fall back on ritual during crises of faith. I heard Doris Kearns Goodwin explain that Lincoln was different from Bush because he embraced his political enemies and listened to their opinions, and was open-minded. I heard Tom Friedman explain that "the world was flat" as you no longer had to relocate to be successful in a given industry. I heard all sorts of great music that would never have given a listen to, because I had categorized it as "country". I was introduced to the wit of Kinky Friedman, and have since read all his books. And those of many other authors. Mr. Imus was a good interviewer because he asked a good question, and he let the person respond. It was that simple. I don't like the idea of Morning Joe - questions are asked and answered by Joe and his cohorts, leaving the person being interviewed to get a word in edgewise. Jim Cramer was the best of the "guest hosts" - he asked good questions. But there is no replacing Don Imus. And what about all of his good works? Is all that to be wiped out by one single over-the-top comment? All the good done by Don & Dierdre Imus for children who are sick with cancer or afflicted with autisim; the money raised to assist wounded veterans or their survivors; raising consciousness of the need to green the environment. I think that many of the young women of the Rutgers basketball team had never listened to his show. What did they do? They listened, forgave, and made a point of saying, through their coach, that they had never called for his firing. They are an example to the rest of us. CBS and MSNBC just made a hasty and terrible decision. Sadly, I can't see them admitting they were wrong. I wish he could come back, but I'm afraid he's made too many enemies. The higher you go, the harder you fall. But his departure has left a big gap. (Ha - I can hear him saying that I need to get a life.) I'm from West Virginia....he'd probably ask me if my trailer was leaky and if the dogs under the front porch were OK. And you know what? I'd laugh. Because I get it.
J M commented:
How could CBS, NBC and its advertisers listen to Al Sharpton et al and not its own consumers? You showed no loyalty to Mr. Imus or us and that is unforgiveable. Don Imus is not a racist and should never have been fired. Our mornings are ruined because of all of you. We will continue our boycott.
steve commented:
I'm glad Imus is gone. He spent years playing with fire, courting racial remarks from the idiots around him, and he finally got burned. Good riddance to him.
LOU commented:
I want IMUS BACK!! NBC is going into the tank. Our family will NOT watch MSNBC/NBC ever again. Boycotting sponsers And all who had a hand in removing our Man IMUS.
Jim Burke commented:
I also have not watched anything on MSNBC. I have started to watch Fox. I do not like it. But I feel the Iman was not given a fair deal. Look at all the Veterans, and Children he has helped. Who, has Rev. Al ever help? When and if the Iman returns, I will watch that network. For my News.
Fmsnbc commented:
When Imus was fired, I deleted MSNBC from the TV's channel lineup AND TiVo. MSNBC can go suck an egg!!
PDonner commented:
you are exactly right. There is no replacement for Imus. In April, many people jumping on the bandwagon against Imus and rationalizing his ouster used comments similar to this: "he was irrelevant anyway, it's no great loss." But he was where he was for a reason. He was a legendary radio personality, in the next generation after Wolfman Jack, the Will Rogers of the day. His musical knowledge and judgment, in addition to the great interviews you mention, were another big part of the show. It was well known that for him to put in a good word about a book was the best way to turn a stack of pages into a bestseller. Why? Because people that buy books listened to the show. He was anything but irrelevant. His activism was unmatched by any other major media personality I can think of. Even leave out the charity work. So to lose him over a comment that was taken out of context & used by activists to make a political point(to those who neither understood or listened to the show) is simply unacceptable. A suspension would have been extreme and overboard. Firing Imus was an affront to basic American values. People misrepresented the statement, created a misperception, and then demanded action based on this misperception. We've been trying to get our voices heard in the 6 weeks since he was removed. We're getting there. Witness MSNBC's ratings. We were already engaged in a relationship between Imus and his advertisers. We didn't need to "threaten" a boycott. We were already buying their products. Boycott "threats" should be, if not ignored, treated as what they are: words. As living embodiments of the First Amendment using the public airwaves, broadcasters need to have enough backbone to respond only to real boycotts, not threats of them. You know, Al Sharpton's side here has a point. If I understood it the way they did, I might be offended too. But even in that case firing is over-the-top. It didn't generate "accountability" as Sharpton claimed. Since it is advertiser-supported programming, and MSNBC is attempting to be a mainstream network, a suspension and new, clear standards would have been a reasonable, principled response. 'Imus in the Morning' was an old-fashioned show, a one-to-many relationship between Imus and his listeners. We'd never had any connection with each other, no web sites or local meetings, nothing. There was no need. We were literally blindsided by the media frenzy last month and had no way to get our perspective heard. Since then, communities like SupportImus.org and PeopleAgainstCensorship.com have started to crop up. Now that individual listeners, at home, in the cars, wherever, are realizing they are not alone, they are standing up. The deepness of the offense here from the perspective of Imus listeners is stunning and so complex it is hard to express quickly. But we're getting there.
Susan commented:
My husband and I have tried to watch "The Replacements" but there's no substitute for Imus. Finally, today I e-mailed MSNBC and told them to get the I-Man back and soon. Like they're listening to us, right? The problem is, there's no alternative in the morning. Fox & Friends is unwatchable and so is CNN American Morning. Thought when Kieran Chetry went over there from Fox it might not be too bad but they've got some doofus guy with her. Yuk. We really miss Imus and the Gang and Deirdre and everybody. We miss hearing about the Kids, and who won the rodeo, and what Fred's up to. This is so sad it's almost unbearable. How can you watch 15 hours a week of someone for 10 years and just have them be gone and not feel a terrible hole in your life? You can't.
bjmbsn96! commented:
I have prayed every morning hear that Imus is back on the air. Sometimes he was the only smile in my entire day. When will he be back, please?
Judy commented:
I noticed in another article that I read earlier today, the head of the entertainment division of NBC had been fired and replaced by two other guys. What NBC fails to realize is that it doesn't matter who they put in the position, there are many of us loyal 'Imus' fans who will no longer watch any programs on NBC, MSNBC or CBS television no matter what kind of programs these networks add to their line up.
imus fan commented:
The best part of my morning commute was listening to Imus on the radio. I never believed it possible that the media could be so afraid, we need Imus back and we want him back asap

Yelena commented:
Finally there is an article about people who likes Imus and outraged about his firing. It was well-organized witch-hunt. People who never heard about him before made their accusations. It reminded me very well the Stalin's Russia where they could accuse anybody of anything and get well-orchestrated outrage of the whole population. Friends were silent but at least they risked their lives over there. What Russert and other "friends" were risking? It is a shame it could happen here in USA. I hope Imus will be back; I miss his program very much. And, of course, no more MSNBC, CBS and those cowards-"sponsors". It is disgrace.
Melanie commented:
Yes, we do demand Don Imus and there is no suitable replacement. Hello, is anyone out there listening?
Wade Rivers commented:
And now Les aka "knee bender" has fired the good general. What a toad he is.
Mike commented:
Ditto what's already been said. No P&G products, American Express, MSNBC or NBC allowed in this house. they all ceased to exist the minute he was fired.
Ree commented:
Dear Steve, It takes 21 days to make anything a habit, I have changed my habit not because I wanted to but because you all in the Media, live in a bubble. The rest of us living out in the real world know people are fallible and make mistakes. If Steve Capus, is still in the same mindset as he was when he fired Imus, I have to say he may be in the wrong line of work? Out of touch much? There is not another Imus format so you can't replace him. The man is an American Radio Icon and you all let the rabble take him down...some LOYALTY. It is past 21 days and all of us have new habits, speaking for myself watching MSNBC/CBS or patronizing any of the Sponsors who deserted him is not on my new habit list. I am part of the boycott. I would like people to think about this: How much money has Don Imus and his Imus crew made for all those Corporations and Networks over the years. I don't think he was paid back in kind. Kinky Freidman was right, Cowards Kick Away Another Part of America's Soul.
Lori commented:
When you took Imus off the air I stopped watching MSNBC. He was the only reason I ever tuned in, and even though he ridiculed shows like Hardball and Countdown, he was plugging them, simply by mentioning them on his show. I'm disappointed at people like Russert, Fineman, and to a certain extent, David Gregory who turned on the I-man so quickly in his time of need, even to the extent that Gregory would actually vie for that time slot for his own show. He was terrible, by the way. Imus always gave these guys a bully pulpit from which to plug their books. And nowhere else, on radio or TV, will you get interviews like he had. (With the exeption of "The Daily Show" or "The Colbert Report," which unfortunately don't allow for as long an interview as on "Imus In the Morning." If you don't put Imus back on, it will be a travesty, but the only worthy contender for that slot, in my opinion, was Jim Cramer, if he even wants it. He was smart, energetic, and surprisingly well-informed on politics, sports, and pop culture. That guy does his homework! He also seemed to work well and respect Charles McCord, Chris Carlin, Tracey Burgess, and the rest of the staff. I will never watch again if you put that vapid idiot Scarborough on in Imus' slot.
Ruth commented:
Well, MSNBC has steadily gone downhill - from the never-ending lock-up and crime shows on PRIME TIME, to yukking up Scarborough from right-wing hawk to Hollywood guru, to the unforgivable sacking of the I-Man. Frankly, MSNBC isn't good enough for the I-Man anymore. No one was anywhere near as good as he although we got to see how tough 3 hours are on live TV - and appreciate the I-Man even MORE. Someone, somewhere, needs to grab Imus and they can be sure that everyone of us will follow. I agree- boycott the advertisers and make that loud and clear - this was a violation of the 1st Amendment and a dirty shame. I miss I-Man. And his crew. Every single morning, sigh. Someone give him a home.

Since the day they took Iman off the air...right before a charity event no less...We showed Iman we care by the amount of money he raised inspite of them taking him off the air (over 4 million dollars!!!! I have not watched 1 second of MSNBC and I watched it faithly for 7 years! Never again! We (Imus fans) have a list of sponsors to take shopping with us so we make sure we don't buy their products. Did you know the majority of the Iman viewers are women...surprise and you know what they say...you don't mess with a woman scorned! Quote...In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. " - Martin Luther King Jr. - (referring to MSNBC, CBS, Tim Russert, etc..)
Mel commented:
Finally, an article about all of us out here boycotting and outraged over Imus's firing and desperately missing his show. Thank you! We're the same ones who wrote, called and faxed CBS and NBC before Imus was fired so we know they don't care about us or the children he helped (I have an Aspy son and we depended on Imus to speak out for us and keep us informed). My family will never support CBS/NBC programming or advertisers again. Our mornings will never be the same until he is back on the air where he belongs.
Anne B. commented:
I have been on an important mission since the day Imus was unceremoniously removed from the air. I have not bought one single P&G product and I was a pretty good customer for many years, I'm in the market for a new car, but no GM car for me. And MSNBC? No Imus No MSNC.

Me neither. And Joe Scarborough? Give us a break! There is NO ONE who can take Imus's place, now or ever. Bring back the I-man and let's talk about what it means to be an American and stop this divisive nonsense.
