BBC America Gears Up for Season Three Torchwood

February 7, 2009

BBC America is gearing up for the third season broadcast of Torchwood. An official trailer was distributed this week and today, at New York ComicCon, Torchwood actor Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and director Euros Lyn are scheduled to make an appearance - 4:15 – 5:15pm, Room 1A08, Javits Center.

Per BBCA: Actress Eve Myles (Merlin, Doctor Who) and director Euros Lyn (Doctor Who) to present a sneak peak of Torchwood: Children of Earth and discuss their creative process and experience working on BBC AMERICA’s highest rated series.”

USA Today’s Whitney Matheson moderates.

The panel will be followed by ComicCon’s traditional audience Q&A, and an autograph signing. 6:00 – 7:00pm, Table 1, Autograph Area.

Per BBCA: “The Javits Center…will feature a massive billboard with all-new imagery from the upcoming U.S. premiere season, as well as a teaser running on a jumbotron and monitors inside the building.”

Torchwood is a Dr. Who spin-off about an alien-battling, Cardiff-based team who conduct their business from an underground facility.

The third season isn’t really a season per se. It’s a condensed five-part mini called Children of Earth.

The mini will air on consecutive evenings, per BBCA publicity, and will coincide with the U.K. launch. The air date is reported to be late June/early July 2009.

Beyond the mini, the future of the series is murky, especially since lead writer/co-producer Chris Chibanall has trotted off to Law and Order UK.

Some background: my blog post from the Torchwood panel, TCA Summer 2007 and my review of the season two premiere.

Here’s the just released trailer for Children of Earth:
