CNN's Campbell Brown Goes Journalistic. McCain Cancels Larry King Appearance
This video (see below) is zipping across the Internet today, on my Twitter group etc. CNN anchor Campbell Brown confronts McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds on GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin’s foreign policy chops.
One of the more entertaining headlines, credited to FishbowlLA:
"Go Campbell Brown - Get All Journalistic On His Ass"
Apparently, the McCain peeps are in a snit. Now, TV Newser reports their sources say John McCain’s appearance on CNN’s Larry King Live has been canceled because of Brown’s vigorous line of questioning. Yes, they so have to worry about Larry King getting all journalistic on McCain’s backside.
Update: NY Times also says that McCain has canceled due to Campbell Brown’s interview with Bounds: Wolf Blitzer, the CNN anchor, announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, saying, “A senior McCain adviser tells CNN the interview has been pulled because of a segment CNN ran last night during Campbell Brown’s ‘Election Central’.
Campbell Brown vs. Tucker Bounds:

Did I just see the same interview the rest of you claim to have seen?
Asking a point blank question about one person does not mean 'deflect the answer to be about everyone and everything except for the person being questioned about'.
I think it's rather clear that Campbell was asking a very simple question, a question any child could answer, and was not being provided with an answer - thus requiring further clarification to obtain that answer.
I'm personally disgusted at the misdirection the campaigns tend to take when asked a question point blank, and I feel that Campbell Brown handled the situation very well, with great professionalism.
Ponder commented:
Hmmm... Maybe if McCain had appeared on Larry King Live, he could have answered th questions more directly. He missed a great opportunity to set the record straight.
Doug commented:
Campbell Brown has clearly been studying the interview techniques of Tim Russert. However, while Tim was a master, Campbell is an amateur by comparison. Russert would never badger and always knew the facts. He would also hit both parties in an even handed manner. Campbell was unprepared and unprofessional. I don't think I have ever seen a "reporter" smirk at responses to questions before. Michael Moore would be proud - CNN should be ashamed. I am disgusted.

In response to Demi:
Hell No!!!
demi commented:
Mccain acted like a true "whiner", cancelling his Larry King appearance, just because poor little Tucker couldn't answer some tough questions posed by Super Anchor Campbell Brown about Palin. Is this the type of man we want running our country?
Danny commented:
In her interview with Tucker Bounds,Campbell Brown did a disservice to CNN and media in general. It is sad that the public has to listen to such a biased interview. Ms. Brown should also do more research on who acutally commands a state's national guard. Poor reporting at best.
Bill commented:
I must say that I have never seen Cambell Brown in such a nasty, vicious attack mode as with Tucker Bounds. Is she a reporter or an interrogator? Is she a rejected interrogator from the terrorist prison at Guantanamo Bay Cuba? I think reporters should stick to reporting. If they want to put their opinion in the public view, they should get a job as a commentator. Representatives of neither political party should be subjected to such rude interrogation.
Vickie commented:
I have to say I was totally and thoroughly disgusted by Campbell Brown's "mow them down" tactic while interviewing Tucker Bounds. She went beyond the limits to the point of extreme rudeness that completely turned me off. I will now turn the channel whenever I see her. She didn't even give Tucker Bounds a chance to answer the question completely. She kept interupting him and finally asked him to be quiet so she could get her question out there again. Campbell Brown has forgotten that she is a "reporter", not an interrogator. By the way...this has nothing to do with whether Tucker Bounds is a Republican or Democrat. Bullet shooting reporters looking to enhance their reputation need to be called down.
Rob commented:
Up til now, McCain has been getting a free-pass from the media, while they have piled on Obama (numerous media studies have shown a negative media slant against Obama over the past several months, while McCain has been treated like nice old grandpa).
It's about time someone in the media actually asked real questions of the McCain campaign. Hopefully, this wasn't just a fluke, but is the start of actual journalism. Good Job Campbell!
Mary Hates Fox commented:
Now if CNN could question Obama with such vigor. However, kool aid drinkers like Mary Mac feel that Republicans are eeeeeeeevilllll, and Democrats are angelic figures sent to save us from ourselves.
your propanganda is as good as MSDNC
