"That One" Meme Spreads

October 8, 2008

With the proliferation of blog and social networking tools, culture memes spread in minutes.

Look what happened overnight in response to John McCain’s "that one" remark during the debate.

Someone registered a website called "thatone’08".  T-shirts are already available for  $19.95, with payment made via Paypal.  As of 1:25p.m. PT today,  the "thatone’08" Facebook page had close to 2,000 fans.

By this afternoon, several hundred designs built around the "that one" phrase appeared on CafePress, the platform that revolutionized design and sales for small merchandizers.

Here’s a sampling of logos that popped up on CafePress.

The design below was just featured in a report by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell who said the phrase immediately "spawned" merchandise.

Baseball caps and more…

McCain’s "that one" remark, that started all of the fun.
