Keith Olbermann Overtakes O'Reilly

September 12, 2007

TV Newser reports
that MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann’s Countdown was the number one cable news show last Friday night, in the 25-54 demo (live+ same day DVR).

The night before, appearing on the halftime show of the NFL opener (Saints vs. Colts), Olbermann customized his "Worst Person in the World" schtick by naming the "Worst Person in the NFL."  TV Newser said an estimated 16.5 million viewers (18-49) watched the game broadcast on NBC.

An NBC insider told Newser that this was the first time Olbermann has beaten Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly in the key demo. Said the insider: "KO has been trending in that direction for weeks."

"It’s everything, the demo is everything. It’s where we make our money," Phil Griffin, NBC News senior VP, said to TV Newser.

Sniped Fox News spokesperson Irena Briganti when asked by Newser to comment on the story: "Does Mediabistro know you’re on two payrolls — MSNBC’s and theirs?"
