AT&T U-verse, Ready-to-Go in Marin County?

April 10, 2008

Comcast is popular in my Marin County neighborhood but here comes the competition.

ADEX Telecom (a contract staffing service) showed up in front of my house around 3:30 p.m. today with a bucket truck.  Here they are, mucking around the street pole adjacent to the driveway.

I chatted amiably with the “bucket guy” (B.G.).  He stated he was contracted with AT&T, and that we would soon be getting “really great tv services.”

“Oh, you mean U-verse,” I said

“That’s right,” confirmed B.G.

When would U-verse be available, I asked.  B.G.said he wasn’t in a position to say, but "maybe as soon as sixty days."

When I asked exactly what he was doing up there in the sky above my home, he replied that he was “verifying that every house has a dedicated line.”

Well, I keep checking for Uverse here in Marinwood, but it's not available yet, unfortunately... I am really trying to get away from Comcast if possible.

Well, a couple weeks ago I talked to a guy checking the box down the street from me. He said sometimes they get sent to check before uverse is installed, but he didn't know in this case. Saw another tech there yesterday, but couldn't stop to ask. Really want to have some competition for Comcast before our digital intro offer runs out next month!

Hi Ron - U-verse is up and running in my San Rafael 'hood. And fancy fliers are showing up in my mailbox by the boatload. Among the offerings - a four tuner DVR, free wireless at thousands of locations (if signing up for the triple play) etc. I don't know anyone who has subscribed.

Hi "Other Jeff" - interesting! more intel from Marin! A few weeks ago, the Pac Sun published a long article on the new AT&T competition coming to town. I have new photos and another blurb about activity in my neighborhood coming up in the next day or so.

There was an article in the paper about installation of big node boxes in Larkspur, so it seems like lots of places in the county are getting it. I'm sitting here in East S.R. watching for the lineman!

Hi Mary,

Thanks for the update, what area of Marin are you in? I am in the Hamilton area of Novato and am chomping at the bit waiting for U-Verse to arrive here. I can't wait to dump Comcast and their horrible service!
