You Can Date Brad Garrett on Crackle.com, If System Glitches Don't Get in The Way

June 12, 2008

If you’ve ever dreamt of dating a divorced, middle-aged actor who may (or may not) be entering the twilight of his career, then Crackle.com (the Sony Pictures Entertainment-owned on-line network) has your ticket to….love?  Easy pass to Hollywood’s B-list?  Ritual humiliation?

Crackle is inviting women to post vids of themselves for the opportunity (?) to date Brad Garrett, best known to television audiences as the co-star of Everybody Loves Raymond.  These days, Garrett stars in the Fox sitcom/Sony Pictures Television-produced ‘Til Death.

From the on-line submissions, only ten hapless lucky finalists will be selected - by Garrett’s ex-wife and his urologist.   Dating Brad Garrett, the reality series that chronicles the misadventures in three-to-five minute webisodes, will stream on Crackle starting September 15.

In the vid (posted below), Garrett warned prospective applicants:

"I think it’s important to know that I don’t drink alcohol and I don’t do drugs.  If you go out with me. You may want to.  I’m looking for a woman that doesn’t really aim high. If you have a low self-esteem, it could be you.  My ideal date is someone who orders from the left-side of the menu….I’m no Cary Grant."

P.S.  Okay - this is a fun idea and all, but the system doesn’t appear to work as advertised.  Maybe it’s because I’m posting from Canada.  Maybe the system doesn’t like Canadian servers.  or Mac users.  Anyway - I wonder how many users are having problems with Crackle’s registration process.

First, it’s not immediately apparent how to post a vid.  When clicking on "I Want to Date Brad!" a link leading to a vid posted by "Laura" appears, but no instructions are supplied.  A "subscribe" button is half-buried beneath the text, in both Safari and Firefox.

Registration seems simple enough but I was never able to complete the process.  The system kept tossing up an error message, saying please enter all fields marked with an * - when all available fields were completed.
