MGM Resurrects Dead Like Me
MGM Studios just finished wrapping a Dead Like Me direct to DVD movie, revealed MGM’s Senior Executive Vice President Finance and Corporate Development Charlie Cohen during a chat at the SCI FI Channel/Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con party.
Cohen, who oversees the studio’s new Home Entertainment Productions division along with the studio’s Stargate franchise, said the movie would be released in "about a year." He also discussed cast changes and said the studio is "open" to producing more movies and even bringing the series back for another television run.
Dead Like Me - a dark, poignant dramedy that tracked the lives of grim reapers and their survivors - earned good ratings numbers for Showtime and developed a loyal cult following. But the series was abruptly dumped by the network in December ‘04 after Robert Greenblatt picked up the presidential reins.
Showtime’s reasons for burying the series were never crystal. The network told Variety that ratings weren’t high enough to warrant a third season. Yet here on Multichannel, just weeks before the cancellation, Showtime was touting the ratings as three times the net’s prime time average.
Showtime further muddied the waters during the January ‘05 TCA press tour when critics sparred with network executives over the Dead Like Me cancellation and assertions that they didn’t know their own ratings numbers.
The network had renewed the now-failed Huff for a second season, even before the series premiered. Naturally, a critic wanted to know how many viewers were tuning-in. Chairman and CEO Matthew Blank assured the critics that Huff was "popular" and a "tremendous hit" but when asked to provide a ballpark number for viewers he balked. "I really don’t think we know…" demurred Blank.
"Do you mean to tell us that you’re operating a business flying completely blind with no idea how many people are watching?" asked the incredulous reporter.
"No, no," replied Blank. "We do get the linear ratings. We do other kinds of research and we rely on feedback from our cable accounts and our DBS accounts…"
"So how do you operate as a business?" the reporter snapped.
Blank dug himself a deeper hole by saying that critical buzz was more important than ratings anyway. "But I loved Dead Like Me…," groused another critic, "it got decent reviews…I have no idea what the ratings were because you didn’t share them."
Greenblatt said the show didn’t get universally great reviews. Neither did The L-Word, pointed out the critic. The L-Word helps brand us, said Greenblatt. "Dead people don’t have a constituency, is that what you’re saying?" grumbled the critic.
"Were the numbers that bad?" asked another.
"No, but numbers are not that big a factor," replied Greenblatt.
I chimed-in finally. "You folks recently told me that Dead Like Me was getting three times your average prime time rating, which seems to be a pretty good showing. So, how does this show no longer fit with the network?"
"We’re trying to build a new network and a level of - you know - of creative success and sophistication…." responded Greenblatt, "for a show to take up one of our slots, it has to be firing on every level."
The moderator closed the panel at that point but I wondered how a vapid series like Kirstie Alley’s Fat Actress - unveiled at the time - qualified as sophisticated and firing on all levels.
A viewer campaign followed. Fans costumed as grim reapers protested in front of Showtime’s NY offices. Over 30,000 signed a petition. But Showtime held fast to their position.
Finally, creator Bryan Fuller (Heroes, Pushing Daisies) who left the series during the first year over creative differences, railed in a Media Village interview against what he called MGM’s meddling.
That was then, this is now. Charlie Cohen assumed his current position at MGM in late 2006 and he’s an enthusiast for the series.
He spouts details in the best fanboy encyclopedic tradition. (He can tell you everything you could possibly want to know about Stargate and his knowledge of Dead Like Me appears to be equally comprehensive.)
At Comic-Con MGM wrapped ten city buses with MGM promos and at least one was reserved for Dead Like Me. The buses pulled up in rotation in front of the convention center throughout the four days. Cohen was clearly pleased by the response. "All kinds of people who saw that bus came up to our booth," he said, "they’re very excited about it. "
Cohen said that the Dead Like Me film had wrapped "two days ago." Stephen Herek directed.
Ellen Muth (Georgia) returns as the lead. "Everyone’s back," said Cohen of the cast, with the exception of Mandy Patinkin (Rube) and Laura Harris (Daisy Adair),
According to Cohen, Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond on Lost) was cast as a new character named Cameron - the head undead who hands out assignments to the reapers, taking over the slot once occupied by Patinkin
Sarah Wynter, (Dead Zone, 24) steps in as Daisy Adair.
If all goes well, Cohen sees more Dead Like Me movies, or perhaps even another television series. "If it’s a series of movies that’s fine. If someone saw it and thinks it makes sense to bring it back as an episodic tv series, we’re open to anything," he said.
However, MGM has not optioned the cast at this point.
Cohen said Dead Like Me fans can look forward to getting their hands on the DVD in "about a year." The timing, by the way, is perfect for a Comic-Con 2008 unveiling.
Simone commented:
Yes PLEASE bring back the TV show! I got hooked on it after watching the DVD and have just finished both seasons in a week. I\'m gagging for more!!!! Bring it back please!!!
Yameen commented:
Dead Like Me was a fantastic series, and I cannot truly believe that it was cancelled. The writing was brilliant, the setting apt and the characters superb. The ONLY critique I would levy is that the Daisy in the movie, was as bad a performance as the fictional Daisy makes in the opening night of Macbeth, the original actress from the series made that part her own and deserves to feature in any future movie/episode.
Sean D commented:
I am really starting to resent the cancellation of shows that I enjoy because there is no wrap-up on something that i enjoyed and invested my time in. Dead Like Me was such a high-quality, funny and, in a many ways, insightful show. Please bring it back!
ajmcnutt commented:
I love this show! I watched the movie first and then have been watching the episodes non-stop on netflix. The original cast is definitely the best. Please make \"Dead Like Me\" undead!
rhinox2 commented:
please bring back dead like me. i agree that the original cast had a much better chemistry. great show
Noname commented:
Absolutely, please bring this show back on air. I have already watched the movie several times and can\'t get enough. I do miss the Rube character -- hopefully there\'s a way that he can return, along with the show.
hitmanhackerzero commented:
I loved the series and liked the movie original cast would of been better but i understand how there could be difference for the cast plus I\'m glad they left it \"open\" I really hope they bring it back!!!! If they would just get atleast another 2 or 3 season that would be fine with me!!!!!!!!!
robert commented:
ABSOLUTELY bring the show back with the original characters. It was the greatest show I\'ve ever seen. Genius story line. Everything about it was what great shows are made of. Big mistake taking it off the air. Bring it back.
Del commented:
I LOVED this show. I have the first two seasons on DVD and downloaded the movie on Amazon. (Before I knew I would not be able to burn my own copy. I download cd\'s and can burn, why not DVD\'s?) I missed \"Rube\" and the original \"Daisy.\" They cannot and should not be replaced or killed off. Please bring this show back!!! And bring back Laura Harris and Mandy Patinkin! The chemistry is just not the same. I Love this show. I love the original cast, too.
Turbo commented:
If the show comes back or if more movies are made, please get rid of Daisy or bring back Laura Harris. Mandy Patinkin(Rube) was also greatly missed. It was a disappointment not to see him in the movie.
Catie commented:
I just finished watching the movie, and while I loved the TV show, I was not entirely happy with the movie, the girl they got to play Daisy sucked, she was HORRIBLE, if it is decided to be brought back to life- please just kill Daisy off as opposed to having that girl play her. BTW don\’t get me wrong-I love the character of Daisy, but Laura Harris played a much better Daisy.I was happy to see that Reggie might finally be able to move on,now that she has had the chance to speak with her sister again. I missed Rube being in the movie, but I heard he couldn\’t do it because of Criminal Minds. I\’m also hoping that by ending the movie once again with many questions unanswered that the show could be brought back to life again. It was such an amazing show, with an amazing cast it really needs another chance to shine!
Johnny commented:
I REALLY loved the show! It was the reason I subscribed to Showtime at the time. I got the first season on DVD and got other people interested, but alas. . . they cancelled it abruptly, and I canceled Showtime and was very disappointed. The movie was great! I miss Rube. He was the rock of the show. I liked the original Daisy better. She seemed to have more dimensions to her. I was hoping (!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!) that the post-it\’s and George\’s comment was alluding to Rube coming back, but others think it means that she\’s in charge. I hope it\’s the former. I\’ll have to find a way to buy it even with my lack of budget. It\’ll be worth it if it means more Dead Like Me!!!
robertt commented:
Just watched it. The movie would have been better without Daisy…. The real Daisy was is a much better actress. Her replacement was off the mark.
I do miss Rube but other than the Daisy miscasting… It was great to see everyone again. I really really hope they renew the series. Everyone needs to buy the DVD or purchase it through iTunes or Amazon.
Ellen commented:
Just watched the movie and now I\’m left wanting more. Preferably more where Patinkin was present because Dead Like Me isn\’t complete without Rube.
I didn\’t REALLY notice the change with Daisy\’s actress but thank god at least they kept Mason. Anyways I hope it keeps coming!
spider commented:
love the series and i loved the movie if MGM keeps on his word to bring back the series than i\’am really happy
Lisa commented:
I am amazed that this show was ever cancelled. I have never liked a show like this. I can only hope that it is brought back and all the same charaters come back as well. Taking this show of the air was a big mistake, should have never happened
Ron commented:
I enjoyed the show when it aired on Showtime and i enjoyed the movie. I missed Laura Harris but I thought Ms. Wynter did a good job taking over a character developed by someone else. About the Showtime cancelation: When Showtime canceled the \"Dead Like Me\" series, I canceled my subscription. I wasn\'t going to waste my time with a network that would cancel a series on a whim (the ratings and reviews were good). I hope that we have another chance at a series or a series of movies.
Tom commented:
What is Ellen Muth taking? Her lips look like liver lips. She looks like she didnt eat for 5 yrs and she talked like she's high. No thanks not buying this
b.f. perkins commented:
I hope eventually in some form with a similar direction the show returns.
M. S. McGraw commented:
I just started to watch this series out of pure curiosity after seeing it advertised on Sci-Fi. Being a fan of Pushing Daisies I had a feeling that I might like DLM and I was not disapointed. I have just spent the last three days watching the two seasons back to back and it was fantastic. It is unusual to come across a show so well written and quirky nowadays, but as always I wasn't surprised to see that it was canceled. So many shows go the same way. I can't wait for the film and being a huge fan of Henry Ian Cusick I am looking forward to seeing him take up the new role of Cameron. For those wondering what is happening with the release date, I read that it is due in Feburary 2009. Looking forward to it!
gothceltgirl commented:
I love Sarah Wynter. She is so well-spoken without sounding affected. I would like to emulate her. I can't wait for the movie. Loved Dead Like Me, wish it hadn't ended so soon.
Jeremy commented:
I hope a response to an old string might still grab some attention but it has been over a year since this post and I was hoping someone might have new information I have heard the release has been pushed back to 2009, but no further details...doesn't look good, in fact it reminds me of Deadwood's 2 final episodes.
Brittany commented:
I just now started watching the series (Oct 08)I absolutely love this show! I was crushed to hear about it canceling. I am in the middle of watching the second season. One of my close friends has both seasons, I think I will be getting both seasons on DVD to hopefully help bring back the show. I do have to say that I don't like the idea of the whole Rube and Daisy situation. When this show is brought back it needs to be done right. That means ALL original casted members. Please put this show back on the air ASAP! All actors and actresses should finish what they start. Unless of course its some kind of emergency. Although, it has been 3 years! What the hell people!

Awesome series. I'm from Europe but I'll get someone to buy the movie in any of the US states it's released in to participate in the sales numbers if need be. Let's just hope they can manage to retain the feel the original series had.. fingers crossed.
Ron commented:
I found this series browsing in Netflix, I watched part of an episode online and was hooked. I don't often watch dvd's more than once, I'm on my third viewing. This series was the best, I can't believe they would cancel a show of this caliber....BRING IT BACK!!!

Hey! I'm British (English, actually), but I'm very excited about the DLM movie. I just wish they'd make up their minds and release the damn thing! We're gagging over here for goodness sake!!! MGM - pull yer bloody finger out will ya!

DEAD LIKE ME WAS A GREAT SHOW. I DID NOT SEE IT ON SHOWTIME BUT CAUGHT IT ON SCI-FI CHANNEL. I BOUGHT BOTH DVD BOX SETS AND WATCHED 3 TIME THRU. I WILL GET THE NEW DLM DVD MOVIE WHEN RELEASED. BRING US A 3rd SEASON OF DLM BUT DON'T GIVE IT TO SHOWTIME. SHOW IT ON ANOTHER CHANNEL.

Wikipedia says MGM is having money troubles, which has delayed the launch of the movie till next year. "On April 18, 2007, MGM announced that they are developing several direct-to-DVD movies and sequels. Included among them is a brand new film based on Dead Like Me. [15] The movie is to be set two years after the last series episode.[16] The movie's release date was originally July 7, 2008, however due to a money shortage at MGM the release date was pushed back to an unspecified point in 2009, upon which it will be released in a trial run in certain states to test public reaction to the film. The states the movie is to be released in are California, Illinois, New York, Maryland, South Carolina, Arizona, Texas, Montana and Kansas. If the movie sales are as hoped, the movie will be released nationally and Showtime will continue with production of new episodes."

John commented:
I loved this series and it totally sucks they cancelled it. It was so unique and creative with a great cast! I hope everyone bitches until it's brought back...though I'd love to see Mandy back as Rube...I will still watch cuz of Ellen Muth.
brian commented:
if they did decide to do the series again, would it be on showtime, or the sci-fi channel? does MGM own both? I loved the end of the second season, where reggie wakes up and sees george. people, again, if and when this movie comes out next year, but it and tell everybody you can to buy it. also, write write write bloody showtime or MGM or whatever and demand the series return.
okn0tok commented:
Without Mandy it will be hard to fill the role for Rube. Daisy seems completely replaceable, never cared for the actress or the character honestly. Can't wait to see the movie but I feel in general most movies made from a series suck... hopefully it doesn't. I would rather have the series.
Peacehandbags commented:
I just can't wait. I found this great series at the video store after it was cancelled. I think it is one of the best I have seen in many years. I will miss Mandy ( because he is great) but i still want this series to come back
Cricket commented:
I just found out they are pushing back the release of the new movie until 'sometime in 2009'! No reason given but maybe (!) they got Mandy (Rube)to come back for some more DLM. Now that would be worth waiting for!

i just watched both seasons in 2 days; i was addicted to them, i could not stop watching. i am super excited for the movie but hope that if the series is picked up rube will be in it and played by patinkin!!!!

I finished the DLM seasons 1 & 2 in a few days. I have dreams of being undead - which is pretty strange - I need closure or continuance in order to get this out of my head. I can't wait!! Rube was the father figure of the show, and I hope he might have gotten transfered like Daisy, Daisy Adair. Hopefully the show will come back and bring Rube with it. The only thing I didn't understand is why whats-her-name didnt give George her apartment with the great shoes and stuff before she piggy backed into the great unknown. oh well.
DeadFan commented:
I too am waiting anxiously for the release of the movie. Since they're going to use the sales of the DVD as a gauge as to whether or not they bring back the show, buy several copies of the movie if you can once it is released.
Jen commented:
I'm just finishing up Season 2 - only three episodes left. Please, please, please bring it back after the movie release. Such an interesting show!

I'm watching the DVD's of the show at this very moment. I just paused it to jump on-line and find out why it was cancelled. AND I STUMBLED on THIS thread!!! I'm SOOO excited and will be keeping my ears turned out for the July 2008 release! Comic Con here I come!!

Hi Jessica - Charlie Cohen indicated that the DVD might be released this summer - I think they may unveil it at Comic Con which is the end of July.

I am so looking forward to the movie. Hopefully it will sell well and they will pick up the series again
TheSkyLark commented:
I cannot wait for the movie to come out. I'm glad I just found out because it would have been unbearable to wait an entire year! This is the best show.. Ever! It sucks about Rube but maybe he'll come back in the TV series (which will hopefully come back!!). He could be on "vacation" and come back during the season. As long as George has the same humor and it still feels the same. *crossing fingers* SO EXCITED!!
Pathfinder commented:
The best show that has ever been on TV bar none. Would like to have seen the original cast back but one settles for what one can get. I will buy the DVD in hopes that it will help bring the series back and would get dish or cable just to see the series.
Dan commented:
Stumbled across Dead Like Me, the pilot on broadcast syndication and was hooked before the first commmercial (ptuey). Bought both seasons on dvd and am amazed that the powers that be were so clueless as to cancel what I believe is the best show I've ever seen. The movie is fantastic good news and hope to see this incredible show revived. I agree that Mandy needs to be brought back, as I also agree that this was his best works, and of course the gorgeous Ellen is the only choice for George.
Clancey commented:
Mandy P is an amazing actor, but quite a flake. Now that he's no longer on a series, perhaps DLM will be the only show willing to give him a job - and a cameo probably at best. Because of Men In Trees and The Reaper, I will miss those actors more than the other two. Maybe they move to a different city? I will buy the movie, though I am thinking that with the writer's strike going on as I type this, a tv showing of the movie might happen before it is released on DVD. In any event, I long for more and will be there no matter what!
Kara commented:
They need to bring back Dead Like Me. I've resigned myself to watching the DVD of Season 1 (I don't have Season 2 yet, but I'm a poor college student), because there's NOTHING good on TV. They need to bring it back! As far as the movie, with the casting changes--I trust Ellen and Callum and Jasmine. It'll be good. And if it'll help bring the series back, I'll get it, even if it's not!
Anthony commented:
bring back dead like me the series, and the L Word. love this both!

What's important is that we're getting more Dead Like Me, and Ellen Muth is returning. She's the key to the show's success. Mandy? Would have been nice, but not essential.
kate0rama commented:
I JUST finished watching the season 2 finale and ran to the computer bc I had remembered seeing something on imbd about a 2007 production date for the show, as i was researching it in the first place. i have to say my heart leapt (and i felt much less depressed) knowing that I had something new to look forward too. I will say before I read all of these wall posts, I was quite wary of the casting changes. But in reading these, it looks like there is hope for a Rube return and the new Daisy actually could do alright...even if Harris wasn't the best, the interaction and 'chemistry' if you will between her and callum was to the core, and their natural, non-verbal time together onscreen was real and tenable. here's to at least a new movie! and remember, as long as ellen, jasmine and callum are back (plus most of the other supporting) whatever we get is going to be at least satisfying.
Robert commented:
Showtime's actions sound like they didn't like "Dead Like Me" because it wasn't racy enough. The L-Word is plenty controversial. Plus they have to try and keep up with their biggest competition (HBO "Six Feet Under"). Showtime's inability to know a good show when they have it will probably lead to their downfall. Next time maybe they will think for themselves rather than walking through a field like cattle.
Bryan commented:
I'm sure everyone would like to see the show pick up where it left off, but that's just not realistic at this point. It has been almost four years. Us fans will have to be satisfied with this bite at the apple. Well, that or denounce the film and say it ruined the series. I am willing to watch the new film with an open mind, but I must say my expectation will be low due to the casting changes. It sounds like a recipe for failure, but lets be optimistic.
Heupo commented:
I really love the original Daisy... Hope that the new one won`t let us down. :) Well, anyways. Can`t wait for the movie!
That Guy commented:
I love this show and was in the process of watching the second season(around the 12th episode) on my laptop using Netflix when I ran out of the instant viewing time. I'll have to find some other way to watch the rest. I watched all of the first season and most of the second in 2 days haha. Can't wait for the movie but I REALLY wish Rube was back.....He brought a lot of life(haha)to the show.
Tony commented:
I love the fact that Daisy is being replaced by her 'sister' in 24. Not sure if anyone remembers that, but both of these actresses were together in 24, and then both were in Dead Zone at different points. They just seem to follow each other around!
redirishrose commented:
Dead Like Me is the best series I have seen in a long time. I am sad they they have gotten rid of Rubes character because There was such a build up of how he died... you never find out, my guess a bank robbery gone bad. Now i see why they have brought Daisy back. Her character is also at a build up point of which you don't know why she is when confronted with abuse. Perhaps that death of hers wasn't an accident on the set of gone with the wind. I am glad these questions will be answered soon..... hopefully.
jcbuterbaugh commented:
I and my entire family signed the original online petition in 2004 to try to save the show. I can't believe it's finally being ressurrected after over 3 years! I hear Mandy Patinkin is available again since he quit Criminal Minds.
Infallible commented:
Dead like me has to be one of the best shows of the last 15 years in terms of fantastically witty intelligently scripted shows with really amazing actors. I for one downloaded the both two seasons why Im sure didnt do too much for the shows ratings, But being in Australia it was not something too easily accessible,. regaurdless i will be purchasing this movie on DVD as well as series one and two.
Steven Davis commented:
Hey...get Mandy if he's available, or just say he(Rube) filled his quota and went into his spotlight. If you can't get Laura, the character has to be replaced, and do the same thing with Daisy(gone into the great white light). I love this show, and have both seasons on DVD. I want to see more...much,much more of it in the future.
Gary commented:
I agree Mandy was integral to the success of the show, which is why I am glad they at least replaced the character instead of just getting a new actor to play Rube. With Daisy they could maybe get away with it (although seems strange they didn't replace the character - Wynter must have impressed them a lot). At least there is always the possiblilty of Mandy coming back in future episodes, and his replacement is someone as talented as Henry Ian Cusick! I can't wait, and I urge all TRUE Dead Like Me fans to buy the DVD and help save the show!
gryphon commented:
yeahh that really sucks. rube isnt in it and the new daisy is probably gonna suck

So I own the first two seasons of Dead Like Me, the first two of Weeds, and Fat Actress. All great shows by showtime! I think its sad that Fat Actress and Dead Like Me were cancelled, as much fun as Weeds is, it's got the same off-beat humor that the other shows had, and its still on the air!!!! BRING BACK DEAD LIKE ME!!!!!!!

Hi Xavier - no worries on the perfect copy here. I realize we have no preview function which makes it harder to catch mistakes. we just like it when viewers comment and participate. and...wow...lots of response here on DLM. mm
Xavier Ryan commented:
Sorry... I forgot to look over that before I submitted it. A couple of the "they"s should have been "the"s and the first "changed" should have been "change"
Xavier Ryan commented:
I'm hoping that they follow The Matrix Revolutions example, with the death of the actress who played the Oracle. They explained away they changed by saying her original appearance's coding was destroyed. Daisy's change could be explained by stating that she looks different because of she went through some really powerful experience that changed her soul in such a way that her body was transformed as well. Hopefully they writer will be able to come up with something a lot better than that.
B-RAd commented:
Im really excited for the movie! Dont know if I can wait a year, but still... I hope things work out with Reggie, cause shes had some hard times already anyway... still, stop complaining people! Any Dead like Me is better than nothing! Buy the DVD when it comes out!
J-fer commented:
There were just WAAAAYYYYY too many unanswered questions left in the series, I can't wait to see the movie, hope like heck it comes back as a weekly TV show. I don't like the switching Daisy, should just be a new charactor, but then I haven't seen the movie yet, might end up just LOVING the new Daisy. I'm just hoping that the movie gives us all a bit of closure from the series, while leaving itself open to renew the series. If not it will just leave us all hanging wanting even more!
Mel 'n L. commented:
This is one show of many that did not deserve to be cut from the air and with the fare on TV getting worse instead of better it should come back. We own both seasons and enjoy putting in a DVD when the offerings of the same people who cancelled this show just leave us flat. The news of the movie is fantastic, just wish it wasn't going to be a year long wait. Would love to have new episodes of Georgia and the gang, including Rube, we don't see anyone filling his shoes.
Sammy B commented:
This is awesome. I just watched the entire show back to back....i loved every minute of it. If anyone can watch the show and not want it to continute ....well they are brain dead or should do what Mason did when he passed lol. Cant wait for the movie...and yeah MGM ...shame shame shame... sound to me like they are becoming the next "FOX"....killing good shows....eg Firefly & Dark Angel after their first or second season....If they are gonna kill a series at least let it come to some sort of conclusion!
Undead Jan commented:
I love this show! I also "found" DLM during the SciFi marathon; several episodes in, I ordered both seasons on DVD. (How the heck did it only last 2 seasons? Someone at Showtime really f-ed the dog...) Can't wait for the new movie, but it is hard to picture it without Rube.
valdria commented:
Not since MASH have I been so addicted to a show...HURRY UP get it back on! If you know what's good for ratings you need to snatch up Mandy Patinkin for future episodes or movies. Daisy we can forgive but the change from Rube is sacreligious, may the gravelings follow you until you bring him back. This from a "fifty something" should tell you how big a following it has.
twogoldlions commented:
I would love for the DVD to be out before the year is over, that way my partner will know what to buy me for xmas

I just discovered the series through DVD, and like "Dead Like Me," I watched both seasons as fast as NetFlix would send them. This is a wonderful show, and I can't wait to see the move. MGM should hurry up and option the actors (including Mandy, now that he is available) and bring it back as a series. I'd sign up for Showtime to watch it. It is one of the best series I've seen.
Ellonah commented:
I worked on the DLM movie and Sarah Wynter has magnificent comedic timing and personality. She really brings a lot of life to the wonderful group of reapers as does Henry, who plays the new character, Cameron

Yeah!!!! I was turned onto to Dead Like Me by a friend and became so addicted that I watched both seasons in 2 weeks. It's a bummer that Mandy won't be back for the movie but I am so happy that Dead Like Me is returning in some form or shape. I hope the show comes back as well. One of the best shows ever!!!

I'm not sure Dead Like Me can really thrive without Mandy Patinkin. Rube was brought the characters together in every episode. As much as I love his work, Criminal Minds was terrible, and I'm not surprised that he wanted to leave. As Darrell said, he's available now, so if the producers really want to appeal to hardcore fans, they'll get him in front of a camera ASAP.

great series, i can't wait. there should of been many many more seasons of this. sad so many bad shows get further along and a great show like this gets kill after the 2nd season

As a huge fan of the series, I'm pleased at the resurrection. As a Vancouverite, I'm saddened by the move to Montreal, as this town and it's scenery was a huge part of the show for me. That said, I just hope the writing and production value is as strong as the original series.I agree with the comments about Mandy Patinkin. His work as Rube is the best of his career in my view. If there is a return to an episodic series I hope he can rejoin the cast. No one could have replaced Ellen Muth.

I must say I only recently discovered the series and I'm halfway through the second season. I've never been a huge fan of Patinkin until now, Princess Bride aside, but I adore this show with him in it. I'm really very happy about the movie and wish this project only the best!!

I agree with Darrell's comment about getting Mandy Patinkin. We want us some Rube!
Nadine commented:
I can deal with Henry Ian Cusick coming onboard as a new character named Cameron. I'll miss Rube madly, of course. I hope there'll be some sort of explanation for his absence. Maybe he finally filled his quota? Maybe he came "full circle" when he escorted his daughter's soul into the light. I loved Daisy's character, but I think it's a mistake to just replace her that way. Why not introduce another character starring Sarah Wynter? I'm a die hard fan, and will give all efforts a chance, but there are some things that should be held sacred. I'm very glad to hear that all the other original cast members will be in the movie, but do we really have to wait a whole year?
Darrell commented:
Well, Patinkin is available now. I say, get him, go back and re-shoot. A Daisy sub I can deal with but Mandy's charcter was the glue in this show. We'll see.
Chief commented:
Ironically, Laura Harris and Sarah Wynter played sisters on "24" a few seasons ago.

I hate it when they replace the actor/actress for a particular role. If they couldn't get the original Daisy back, they should have used a different character.
mary mcnamara commented:
Hey Sean: yeah, no Rube. Patinkin wasn't avail. - I was told - because he was attached to Criminal Minds at the time. But Daisy is back. Sarah Wynter takes over the role.
Sean commented:
Awww, no Rube or Daisy? :(
