Neil Gaiman Receives Comic Con Icon Award

July 26, 2007

Spike TV just announced that prolific genre writer Neil Gaiman — the British author of science fiction and fantasy short stories and novels, graphic novels, comics, and films — is the recipient of the 2007 Comic Con Icon Award.

Said Gaiman to the crowd immediately after the award was announced: “It’s a wonderful thing to learn that you’re an icon. I’ve never been an icon before. Maybe they will make little models of me now and put me on car dash boards and that will help you get parking spaces. I’m honored, I’m flattered, I’m thrilled.”

Gaiman will be honored before a national audience during Spike’s 2007 Scream Awards which tape on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Greek Theatre in LA. The show airs Tues, Oct. 23 on Spike. Spike TV started the award to honor the genre of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic books, long over-looked by mainstream Hollywood.
