SciFi Channel Ratings Drop-Off
Gateworld, a reputable Stargate fansite, reports that Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis ratings have dropped precipitously, off 30% from their mid-season premier numbers the week before. (April 13 vs. April 20).
Last Friday, SG1 and SGA pulled in a 1.1 and 1.2 rating respectively. And Painkiller Jane — ouch! — 1.0 in the 10 p.m. slot, down 26% from the premier.
Just a couple of years ago, it seemed like SG-1 was bulletproof. Weathering cast changes and time slot shifts, viewers stood by their show and the series consistently pulled in ratings hovering around 2.0.
(Then again, last night, SG1 and SGA scored well on iTunes, holding the #18 and #25 spots respectively for television downloads.)
Alas, for Stargate SG-1, I don’t think viewers quite latched onto Ben Browder in his new role. He looked too much like co-star Michael Shanks’ fraternal twin and the Richard Dean Anderson shoes just couldn’t be filled.
Other factors may have contributed to the slow descent. Breaking up the Friday night line-up and moving Battlestar to Sunday was a real disappointment. Friday night had identity, it had synergy, it had mojo. It built to a Battlestar crescendo at 10p.
And I just have this thing, you know, about wrestling on Sci Fi Channel. I really hate it. Sci Fi is (or was) one of the strongest cable brands. This is something you don’t muck around with, even if it means giving up some ratings gain for the short term.
I still have a soft spot in my heart for this network and its potential. For my own selfish viewing reasons, I hope they get their mojo back.

scifi is going to eventually get cut off and no one is going to be sad about it. ill be happy to stand there and push them off the cliff myself. SG1 was a great show, with a strong fan base and great cast. sure rda left, but you cant expect him to stay there forever? micheal shanks left, amanda tapping left, rda left, but they all came back. sure rda isnt in the episodes, but he comes around every now and then, and he's in continuum. he's got a life you know? sure the actors love doing the show, they've said so themselves, but they can't do that the rest of their lives. amanda tapping's got a new show (sanctuary), and it's really the only good show on scifi right now. even eureka isn't very good anymore, it's decent, but not like it used to be. sga got bad once they put woolsey in, and i havent watched it since. ill watch the movies, sga and sg1, and ill continue watching sanctuary, but not on scifi. it may have been almost 2 years since they screwed up, but they're not doing much better, so i say keep it up! and the wrestling is just a cheap way by scifi to try and get more viewers....and it's not working now scifi is it? that's what i thought. they should have brought back stargate when there was still time. it would have been the right way to end the series, and then they could have done continuum, and the one set to film this year. of course, no matter what they do, the fans are gonna complain. i for one wont, it's always gonna be sg1, and while it may different, change is good, you should be embracing it, give it a chance.

Get real science fiction unless you want to call it the SG1 Channel! Get rid of shows like ECW, Ghost Hunters, and Destination Truth which are all crap.
Oh and Battlestar Galactica was crap in its initial older shows, why subject us to worse crap like the new versions. Get rid of the programming director! He/she doesn't know real science fiction.
Clag commented:
The thing about SciFi is that they repeat too many of their own movies and not enough of the classic such as Forbidden Plant or Them. They do make some good movies, but make more action type space movies with ray guns and the such. Rayguns, that sure is old school. I think audiances want more space wars like from scifi books such as Hammers Slammers or Starfist 34th marine FIST. It would be hard to run out of ideas for a show like that! I know, old school again but it sold so well then. Anyhow my opinon, like ---holes everybody
has one!

Has anyone noticed that in the last week or so Sci-Fi has actually been showing some decent Sci-Fi material? Things like Pitch Black, Unbreakable, The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. I've actually found myself turning it on again.
Did they fire the dumb bitch who brought us wrestling on Sci-Fi?
Oh happy day ;)

I absolutely agree. To put it even further, the shows generally succumbs to PC agenda themes. They write these wussy male characters who let themselves be pushed around by masculinized female characters. (Eureka, Battlestar, Painkiller, Bionic, etc, etc). No wonder viewership is going downhill.
SciFi Fan commented:
So long as money dominates television (and it always has), decisions will be made on the basis of profit rather than on quality. The Saturday night crap movies that SciFi shows do bring in an audience that advertisers are willing to cater to so they'll show that.
As for Stargate, the original series, SG-1, was ok. Nothing great, mind you; more akin to one of the later Star Trek series like Voyager or Enterprise (and even then I'd rather watch Voyager or Enterprise). But it was past its prime and it was time to put it to sleep. Stargate Atlantis isn't anywhere near to SG-1, even in SG-1's later years. So the ratings decline is natural.
The big shame is SciFi's unwillingness to take more risks with science fiction instead of risks with television programming, ie. wrestling. Shell out money for film rights to some SF classics, hire good people to put together the project, and produce quality like they did with Frank Herbert's Dune. More Herbert and Asimov, less giant insects and monsters.

Just scroll up! You'll see all the people who support Stargate! It's such a HUGE show, that it's earned this many comments already! I think SCIFI is a total idiot, and that Mark Stern and Bonnie Hammer ought to be FIRED! They cancelled Stargate SG-1 and put on ECW!!!!! OMG! Who else agrees?? Shouldn't a "SCI-FI" channel be allowed to only play "SCI-FI" shows rather than some god-forsaken WRESTLING show that has no fans other than the wierdos in the ring itself? HA! SCI-FI, aka "THE CHANNEL OF DOOM" aka TCOD, has really bit the dust! It just goes to prove that they know nothing, and that they'd rather put ratings above quality television! I say continuing BOY COTTING SCI-FI!!! They'll keep getting the message! The only time I watch SCI-FI is when Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis comes on! Occasionally I'll watch a SCI-FI show if it has a Stargate character in it like "MegaSnake" with MS, but that's it. No body likes them any more, and I don't feel sorry for them! Of course, I'm sure Mark Stern and Bonnie Hammer are in the comfort of their homes sitting on their couches watching "Gargantua" or "Pumkin Head" or "Boa vs. Python." I mean, seriously! They even suck at naming shows! "Boa vs. Python?????" REALLY! REALLLLY! Who would even watch it??? Who would even name it like that? Who would even show it on their channel??? Answer: SCI FI!!! (aka THE CHANNEL OF DOOM) *SIGH* KICK SCI FI's BUTT! Quit watching. SG88 Out. **GRR**

What I hate the most is the logo on the screen. I know what station I'm watching. Now they've gone and made the logo with what's coming up next. It's bad enough they spam the screen and ticker tape the bottom too. I love most of the shows. Why ruin a good thing!
Zarina commented:
I love Stargate & really miss the excellent stories. Recent stories are missing the connectability to the bad guy! The Ori just keep taking over more & more realestate. Humans are like pesky insects to them. I have a hard time working up any strong feelings toward them. There's no connection. Where's the 'David beats Goliath' comeback by SG1? It's not the new cast members. It's the stories.
The same goes for Stargate Atlantis - the cast is awesome, but the Raith had such potential as the focal bad guys. They inspired fear, yet they had enough similarities with us as humans to make us really root for humanity! I miss hating them! :D
SciFi should dump PKJ & bring The Dresden Files' back. Put TDF with SG1 & SGAtlantis, give us back an enemy we can love to hate, & the ratings will go back up! :)
Wraith commented:
There are some of you that hate the show (but still watch it) because RDA left, or because of Ben Browder, or because of the Ori storyline, etc. In my opinion, those people are in the minority. I've been watching SG-1 (and SGA) since the beginning, and I think the show is just great. Sure, there have been slow parts here and there -- but overall, the franchise has gotten better and better. Like most of you, I'm a big fan of RDA and Michael Shanks, but I also love the show enough to let other build upon what they've done. In my opinion, the show has grown beyond them both. I started watching Stargate because of the movie, not because of RDA. In fact, I remember feeling disappointed because the original actors were not there. However, I gave RDA and the others a chance because I loved the concept, and now I'm glad that RDA was there instead of Kurt Russell. I also like Ben and Claudia. I love the Ori storyline (Amazing!), the comedy, the special effects, the quality. I love RDA and he will be missed, but he's not dead -- he just moved on like in real life... and I think Ben has done a wonderful job taking his place. For those other RDA fans who can't get past season 8 -- Give it a chance! Stargate is Stargate. Love the show!

What is truly disappointing is that the rest of the Stargate viewing world has suffered at the hands of SciFi execs.
I'm in Canada. My viewing isn't counted in any ratings polls so I take "ratings" with a grain of salt. I realize they only account for a very small viewing market, and don't really capture statistics accurately. SciFi had first showing rights. I wonder how much money they're going to lose, and cause MGM to lose, because the show won't be going on anywhere now. I have zero interest in any other show, so you know this Canadian won't be watching (with the exception of Stargate Atlantis).
My advice to MGM, keep doing what you've now started. Direct to DVD with the stargate franchise. I'll be first in line (like every year) at HMV to buy my Stargate.
On another note: I miss Jack (RDA) but the show still has so much going for it.
mrv commented:
I'm not surprised by SciFi complaining about losing ratings.
1st, let's annoy viewers by moving shows all over the week, see if the viewers will follow it. so what if viewers are used to having a strong 3-show lineup (like SciFi Friday), let's pump up one of our "original" (blech) shows in there instead.
2nd, lets have these huge breaks between seasons. viewers will forget all about the show in the break, and won't even know when the show is coming back as they won't be watching the network while their favorite show is gone on break. (My mouth dropped at the season conclusion of Battlestar Galactica this spring of 2007 - "returning in 2008," come on!)
3rd - this is the SciFi network. I expect to see SciFi shows on there. Not wrestling. Not the unending schlock monster/horror movies. But science fiction shows! Horror != SciFi, except if you're the SciFi Network.

It's sad to see , what I thought was a great outlet for us sci-fi fans, start sliding into the dumpster. Like scifichick said, WHAT'S WITH ECW???I agree the SciFi did it to itself. I was a Farscape fan and watched that get treated shabbily and now the same has happened with SG 1. I've never been able to get into Atlantis-just don't like the characters or the concept. The last couple of SG 1 seasons haven't been the best either, but the opener for this season, I thought showed great promise (and was a hoot to watch), but I've been disappointed since. The BSG move to Sunday was a mistake. I agree that Friday night is where it should have stayed. And one more point, I'm REALLY fed up with all the schockly horror movies that keep popping up on this channel. My satellite system has a channel just for horror-when I watch Sci Fi , that's what I expect to see SCIENCE FICTION--HELLO! Keep going Sci Fi-this is one viewer that won't mourn your passing.

HA! This is what the TPTB deserve for their shabby treatment of the fans. First the HUGE break, then the whole killing off and changing the cast on SGA. All I can say is that, at first I was angry, but now that has cooled to indifference....now I just don't care about the shows...doubt I'll watch the rest of this season and I doubt I'll watch season 4 or the movie. Good job on killing the golden goose guys!

I also agree! Stargate couldn't go on without Rick and probably Michael Greenberg. Decent scripts were also a factor. Hate the Ori plot threads!

Let's just face facts. SCIFI has made bad decisions time after time for a few years now. We all know what they have been....from Farscape to SG-1 to Battlestar (what's with almost a year between seasons?) and WHAT IS UP WITH ECW???? I won't even go there. Needless to say, SCIFI deserves the ratings it gets and has brought it all on themselves. The Stargate series has expanded naturally, as it should have, and changes have happened. I don't feel that the actors/storylines have anything to do with it. I think SCIFI just needs new management before it ends up in a dump. It is and was a good show and will continue to be.... and I am a loyal fan...to Stargate....not SCIFI.

These episodes aired here in the UK months ago, and at lot of people in America have already downloaded and watched them. They are some of the best episodes ever IMO.
Ok, Season 9 was a bit iffy. But stargate's just starting to get good again and I feel sorry for people who are stopping watching it now while it is.
Dana Jeanne commented:
When Sci Fi cancelled SG1 I chose to boycott the channel and programed it out of my DVR.
IMO, the quality of the show started to slide back in S4 and S5 when the writers tried to turn it into a comedy, RDA got even giddier with his lines and suddenly the buddy team of Jack and Daniel disappered. Season Six pretty much doesn't exist for me, and the only reason I kept watching season 7-10 was because of Michael Shanks and Daniel.
Since the UK showed the second half of the season first, I read the comments from other fans and did the illigal DL business with the episodes I chose to watch. The four that Michael Shanks wasn't in I didn't bother with; I don't like the Mitchell character, I loathe the creature the writers turned Carter into, and I don't like Vala and Teal'c enough to watch for them.
Sci Fi made its own mess and now they have to deal with it.

Well, what did the SCIFI Channel expect, they delay the 2nd half for 6 months and really think that people won't find other ways of seeing their show before hand!!!! That people won't have read the rafts of reviews etc on-line from those who saw the finale back in March!, and decided beforehand which eps they're going to give a miss, and it's not restricted to the 'gates, much as I would LOVE to have seen the 'gates ratings soar (esp SG-1) just to rub The SCIFI Channel's noses in it, it just wasn't gonna happen, too many p!$$ed of viewers, too long a gap bewteen season halves, too many alternative ways to view! MGM take a long hard look at this, get the S10 DVDs, the Movie DVDs out to the world simultaneoulsy, or legally downloadable WW, don't give the Illegal downloaders and piraters a chance, and keep any future Stargate as far away from the 'Destroyer of Shows (AKA The NBC/SCIFI Channel' as possible. MGM - YOU KNOW the fans are behind SG-1 and Altantis, the franchise deserves better, HELP US TO HELP STARGATE, make the shows and the movies available to the world and let the 'Destroyer of Shows' wallow in the abyss they are creating for themselves.

I LOVE the NEW seasons of STARGATE even more! The story of the ORI is incredible! So much more formidable and dangerous an enemy than ever before! And I was apprehensive at 1st about Ben, and Claudia, but after I saw the touching episodes of Vala and her bonding with the Daniel Jackson character when all joking was aside and she almost died, that really won me over. Superb writing and acting. Especially the last 2 years keep getting better and better. Yeah, i bought it. I'm one of the ones that bought it on itunes like it said up there. I do not watch sci fi channel anymore. had enough of the channel. I will however continue to really enjoy Stargate. I appreciate it a lot. I buy it. =]
TheKeeper commented:
Nah, I don't buy that. Farscape and Stargate aired together on Scifi. There was already a large amount of crossover between the two show's audiences. Adding "Ben and Claudia" (what, they're a package deal?) wouldn't have made any sort of appreciable difference in the ratings. If either Ben or Claudia had that sort of pull, the Richard Dean Anderson kind of pull, then ratings would have gone back up with Vala's addition full time. That didn't happen. In fact, they dropped lower than ever.

As the title of the article says "SciFi Channel Ratings Drop-Off" and "SG1 and SGA scored well on iTunes, holding the #18 and #25 spots" --- that pretty much says it all. "bye bye SCI FI"

The only reason I started watching at all was because of Ben Browder. So did a lot of others. Without Ben (and Claudia), perhaps the ratings would be even lower.

haha, MGM is smiling and watching the sales of dvd's and iTUNES roll in. --- & The defunct old sci fi channel is frowning and watching all their shows and ratings spiral downward along with their advertisers. Well, when you have bad management, and you jerk your audience around, guess what happens. Scifi channel had their chance. Oh well. Scifi did it to themselves.
Susan Jeori commented:
I appreciate that Stargate has passionate fans, such as mediasource above, but I'm a fan of quality. The last two seasons have been well below the bar the show had previously set for itself. That happens to coincide with when Anderson left the show; it might be just a coincidence. I don't know. All I do know is that things have been on a downward spiral since then. I gave up after the halfway two parter last season.
As for Ben Browder, I think he was terrific on Farscape and that that show really suited him. When it comes to Stargate, though, I think he's not great and that his style of acting doesn't really mesh well with either the show or the other actors. While I agree with Ms. McNamara that viewers probably haven't latched on to him, I don't think that is enough to keep longterm fans of the show from watching. Stargate's ratings were bulletproof, that is a fair assessment. It would take something pretty overwhelming to turn so many off, and the first thing that srings to mind is basic quality.
I will probably give the two DVD movies that are being made a chance, though. Maybe with a little break the show can get back some of that magic that has been absent.
E commented:
Is this like the same shabby treatment "Farscape" got a few years past, big gaps in season breaks so that viewers forgot the series existed?
I also hate that they broke up the Friday night lineup; it seems like it damaged all three shows.
Mags (sg1fanatic) commented:
I hope MGM is listening. I sincerely believe the ratings drop off is due to more than one reason.
1. Many fans are upset with SciFi, true, and are boycotting the network. The SciFi channel shot itself in the foot more than once and then couldn't understand why its foot hurt.
2. A LOT of SG-1 fans have already seen all the episodes on the internet, which is why I support world-wide simultaneous release of programming to reduce the need for illegal downloads.
3. RDA IS irreplaceable. But if we are going to support Stargate, we're going to have to get past that, and watch it anyway.
Stargate is the most fantastic show on the planet that got thrown to the wolves by a couple of corporate executives. Hopefully it will soon be revived in new hands. We love you guys.
MEDIASOURCE commented:
[sorry, trying again. This system makes text a little hard to read because it takes out all the return characters for some reason.]
Anyway, it's SCI FI CHANNEL WHOSE RATINGS ARE DOWN ALL ACROSS THE BOARD. STARGATE is infact INCREASING, just outside of and beyond sci-fi channel that's all.
It's a bit akin to somebody saying show's VHS tape sales are down, when in fact, people just shifted to a different or more modern venue such as DVD. Scifi channel in this case is becoming the old tape.
What's surprising is that the more recent Stargate shows are selling more strongly than ever according to the latest figures, especially the new shows with the Ori storyline that people describe as amazing, and also all the shows With or Without Ben & RDA, doesn't matter. (It's funny when somebody out there types that RDA 'left' the show, because in fact, he's still involved in the show. haha. Including starring roles in the new Movies.)
So all those who are RDA fans, no he didn't 'leave', just a break, folks, to spend time with his daughter, and you'll be happy to learn he is in the new movies. So good news for all.
Sci fi channel is becoming the brick cellphone at this point. TV Programming and shows are probably going to be delivered via broadband ( TV over IP ) pretty soon in the future anyway, so 'broadcast tv channels' and 'tv networks' deciding for you what you want to watch are probably going to be obsolete pretty soon anyway.
If you want to watch something, you're not going to be waiting until Friday at x'oclock or something, you're just going to go online and stream it right to your TV whenever YOU want to sit down and watch it. Like Youtube only real programs, at full quality, and on your big screen. No more NBC, ABC, whatever pretty soon.
Stargate viewers who are a somewhat tech-savvy crowd are just a bit ahead of the curve and are doing some of that already.

Meanwhile:
SCI FI CHANNEL RATINGS are down.
SCI FI CHANNEL VIEWERSHIP is down.
Painkiller Jane, on SCI FI CHANNEL hyped up like there was no tomorrow slumped down in the nielsen ratings to a dismal 0.95
Painkiller Jane is now getting 1's and below 1's.
ECW wrestlling on SCI FI CHANNEL is hitting its lowest ratings in the 1st quarter of 2007, dropping below 1.7, 1.5, 1.4, even 1.3.
ECW has been on a slow and steady decline ever since.
Dresden files on SCI FI CHANNEL ratings are down with a 1.4 in Frebruary, sinking further to 1.2 the week of Feb 5
Dresden files sunk even lower and got a 0.9 the week of Feb 26th
Dresden files got a meager 1.0 just this week, actually it was lower, but we rounded it up from 0.9x to give it a 1.
Dresden files is now getting pretty much in the low 1's.
Battlestar Galactica on SCI FI CHANNEL went from getting 2.x's in the ratings last year. Now it got an abyssmal 1.2 in February 2007.
BSG continued to flounder on SCIFI even amid rumours that it was going to NBC, and still did only a 1.1 in the neilsens the week of Feb 26th, 2007
BSG was even beat by one of their Saturday lamers, the Gargoyle movie. Which actually beat BOTH ECW and BSG getting a 1.7 to BSG's 1.2.
Battlestar Galactica was moved to a supposedly 'better' night, still isn't saving the show, which is now scraping for 1.2's and barely got renewed.
Grendel down to a 0.9 in the nielsen ratings
Cerberus on SCI-FI channel got a mere 1.1
KAW... SCIFI's attempt at a bird movie got a 1.3
Pterodactyl, a movie that once beat other networks to win the night at one time last year, sunk to a horrible 0.9
Manticore cheesy animated whatever it is on SCI FI CHANNEL dropped to 0.9
Caved in: prehistoric terror must have scared viewers away at a 0.9, as ratings for it on sci fi channel caved in instead.
Earthstorm, which made it into a SCI FI CHANNEL press release touted to its advertisers, tugged a tiny 1.1 in the nielsens
Star Trek, which continues to enjoy fans for some reason on SPIKE TV channel, only got a 0.9 on SCI FI channel
Pretty interesting when more people and sci fi fans on the HE-MEN UFC FIGHTING CHANNEL tune in to watch Janeway, than science fiction enthusiasts on the channel named for the genre. Go figure. Must be a reason for it.
Special Unit 2, the SCI FI ORIGINAL SERIES much touted by NBCU, turned in a nielsen rating of a low 0.9
Special Unit 2 is sort of a clown or keystone cops knockoff of Xfiles. Gee, I wonder why more people aren't tuning in for that SCI FI channel ORIGINAL production?
The show called "10.5!" the movie purported to SHAKE like a QUAKE! made but a little toe stub on SCI FI Channel getting a 1.1 and a 1.2 on the richter scale instead of a 10.5.
Struggling NBC lost the week in ratings as well.
Nielsen ratings for NBC continue to drop. NBC consistently coming in 3rd or 4th place. (there are really only 4 places pretty much anyway, so that's essentially ... last.)
Unless you count 'the CW'. NBC is probably at their offices right now saying thank god for the CW being on some of the lists.
Advertising has slowed on NBC and SCI FI CHANNEL. Ad buys dropped double digit numbers in the 1st quarter.
NBC posted an earnings loss of 10%, dragging down parent company GE corporation.
GE stock lost value on the news. A bit of concern for the stockholders.
Meanwhile, viewers are continuing to watch things on other channels instead.
And seeking other means to watch shows.
ABC & CBS are up. CBS won the week with a strong showing.
STARGATE SG-1 sales on DVD have increased dramatically.
iTUNES download popularity of Stargate SG-1 in particular continues to climb steadily.
This is buffered by the fact that NBC SciFi channel skewed the tv premiere of Stargate by showing it already in other locations such as UK and CANADA, and so in today's WEB WIDE WORLD, everyone in the USA has already seen most of it through online video clips or knew the plot through reading spoiler chat bits about it. So it's actually surprising Stargate got even that high, because everyone has already gotten the story online. Not as much reason to rush home and watch it on SciFi channel. The season just beginning with 2 shows on Sci fi channel in the USA has already FINISHED all 10 episodes and is done already in the UK and CANADA. A big marketing blunder on Sci fi's part. They kept moving the target around, first they told fans January, then February 26th, then March 6th, then April 6th, then it became April 13th and finally fans said, you know what, I don't even know when SCI FI channel shows are supposed to be on anymore, BSG is not on when I thought and expected it anymore, now this... and they end up purchasing Stargate via iTUNES or DVD's and don't even bother trying to figure out SCI FI channel and their wrestling shows anymore.
In the same period that SCI FI channel viewership and nielsen ratings across all shows has been sinking further down,
BSG picked up a nomination for a HUGO AWARD.
STARGATE SG-1 also being recognized for high quality by the prestigious HUGO AWARD world conference.
STARGATE won TV com poll for most desired return of a television show beating out even the Sopranos.
STARGATE SG-1 and Atlantis have climbed from 85th out of 16 thousand shows, up to 35th place beating Battlestar Galactica, FRIENDS, CSI, the SHIELD, the APPRENTICE (sorry donald), the Black Donnelys, and Seinfeld in the rating of MOST POPULAR television shows of all eras across all genres (not just among science fiction but including comedies, dramas, crime stories, etc) however, Stargate is still beat by Grey's Anatomy, House, Desperate Housewives, and the soap opera One Tree Hill.
As NBC and SCI FI channel (which is owned by NBC, along with USA network, BRAVO channel, etc) continues its decline...
STARGATE continues to acheive awards. Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright won the inaugural SHOWRUNNER PRIZE at the canadian SCREENWRITING AWARDS ceremony, just yesterday. The award is given in recognition of outstanding creative vision for a television series.
In any case, I don't think any SATURDAY SCIFI ORIGINAL MOVIE Pterodactyl, SCI FI CHANNEL ORIGINAL Production Snake King!, or Crow eating "KAW" is going to see a HUGO award anytime soon. Just a guess.
At this point most quality producers except RHI films are backing away toward the nearest exit when they hear the tag line "A SCI FI ORIGINAL PRODUCTION". And something few actors want to have showing on their resume. Lest a prospective good employer or casting department give that line item the 'spock eyebrow' look.
In any case, the big picture here is that ALL OF SCI FI CHANNEL is down and all their ratings for ALL their shows across th

I think you're right about SG-1. The "New" SG-1 just never worked. As you said, Ben Browder just couldn't fill Richard Dean Anderson's place, and I don't think many fans ever latched on to him. This past week's episode was a good story, and in previous years it would have been a great episode. But it wasn't. It was just ok. That's SG-1's and Atlantis' problem lately. At their best, they're just ok. Like the poster above, I'm rather relieved to see SG-1 come to its end. I just wish the writers weren't trying to pump life into Atlantis by bringing Carter over. I think those original SG-1 characters are great to live on in movies, but to keep them going week after week is just merciless.

It's a shame that Sci Fi treated SG1 so horribly. At least S10 had some excellent Daniel episodes--made me happy. Thanks to the airings in the UK of the second half of the season, I know which ones I'll be watching and which I won't be (the Daniel-less eps being the latter).
Personally, I'm rather relieved to see the show finally end.

You know I am one of those viewers that just hates the "New" SG-1. And you are so right RDA's shoes can't be filled BUT this last episode was not bad. Not that I like Mitchell/Vala any more but the episode in itself was a very good episode and Amanda as usual was amazing.
And Atlantis, this was one of their best episodes. I hope that viewers will give the new episodes a look. I would so hate for SG-1 to go out with a whimper.
