Sean Penn: Tell Us How You Really Feel About Fox News

March 25, 2008

Sean Penn’s remarks to a crowd of thousands of extras during the filming of “Milk” continued to generate chatter here in San Francisco over the weekend.

Penn plays gay San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk murdered in his office thirty years ago by fellow-Supervisor Dan White.  Penn spouted to the crowd while shooting a re-enactment of an impassioned speech Milk delivered in front of City Hall at the conclusion of the Gay Freedom Day parade, July 25, 1978.

As reported by San Francisco Chronicle Senior Movie Writer Ruthe Stein:

"I almost wish Jerry Falwell were alive to see this. Almost," Penn shouted to the crowd. After dropping some names of conservatives who are still with us - "Bill O’Reilly, who is too stupid to talk about," and "Sean Hannity, the butt boy of Rupert Murdoch," Penn said, "We know something more. We know their end is near."

San Francisco Chronicle columnist Leah Garchik followed-up to say that some gays were offended and Stein says she’s been receiving “kind of scary” hate mail “from both right wingers and gays.”
