August is Elvis Month on TV Land

August is Elvis Presley month on TV Land, the channel that caters to the 78 million strong boomer viewer. The month-long tribute seems perfectly timed for the hot days of summer. Couch potatoes can escape the heat by hanging inside and filling their days with The King.  

Elvis passed away thirty years ago but his star has never really dimmed. The legend seems even to be entering a phase of reassessment as the media and public begins to consider his full body of work.

TV Land will run a full Elvis retrospective by showcasing his concerts, television appearances, movies and biographies beginning Friday, August 3. A recast of television remembrances includes:

Elvis: ‘68 Comback Special, Aloha from Hawaii, Elvis: The Great Performance, and Ed Sullivan’s Rock and Roll Classics.  

TV Land re-airs a number of documentaries which include Elvis on Tour. On deck for Elvis theatricals are Love Me Tender and Fun in Acapulco.

TV Land contributes its own original to the programming block — Myths and Legends: Elvis, a special which launches Thursday August 16 at 10p.m. The special explores some of the long-standing mysteries surround Presley.

Viewers can catch sneak peeks of Elvis Month on TVLand.com. The site features the blog of music critic Ben Fong-Torres who shares his Elvis memories. Users can also access excerpts from a radio interview conducted shortly after Elvis returned from his Army stint.
