BREAKING – Dish Network Inks Deal With UNIVISION

April 1, 2009

In what could have been a big PR nightmare for Dish Network has been averted. In a posting to their official Twitter Page (http://www.twitter.com/dishnetwork) a reader asked Dish if UNIVISION was going to be removed from the Dish Network lineup. The folks at Dish quickly replied back “@discovMe No worries! Those channels will remain on the air. :)”

Seeing this message I placed a call into Dish Networks PR department and quickly received a call back from Dish Network spokesperson Francie Bauer who was excited to let me know that Dish Network has made a long term deal that will keep UNIVISION / GALAVISION and Telefutura on the Dish Network lineup. (This includes the national and local feeds.)

Further details of the deal were unavailable, but I see this deal being a good one for everyone involved.

I will be back later today with a regular edition of The Satellite Dish!

STAY TUNED AND THANKS FOR READING MULTICHANNEL.COM!

I think the problem stems from the 4 year lawsuit Univision had with Televisa. They ended up losing to Televisa and the settlement involved giving $65 million in advertising and $25 million in cash to Televisa. They are just trying to pay the bills now. Although, I was impressed with the bait and switch type tactic they used with the commercials on those channels the last couple of days. Direct TV switched alot of unsuspecting people over in the last couple of days thinking they were calling Dish.

Big coorporations need to recognize that the Latino market is only GETTING BIGGER EVERY SINGLE DAY. And, there\’s no sense in complaining becuase we PRODUCE and CONSUME for these United States. I\’d like to see way more acknowledgement to us, but this is a start.
