Dish Gives it Fuel

May 21, 2009

Racing fans are in love with Dish Network this month, as earlier in the month Dish gave racing fans the much requested SPEED Network HD channel, and now Dish revs its engines again by giving its customers the Fuel Network.

Fuel TV is now available to customers with Dish Networks Classic Gold 250 package (or higher) and is online now.

Where’s the HD Baseball?

On Tuesday Night my email box was full of complaints from Boston Red Sox fans wanting to know why Dish Network did not carry the game in high definition.

The answer is bandwidth; Dish only has so many shared game time HD channels. Because of this Dish Network only carries select games in HD. While Dish Network advertises over 140 HD channel a good number of those channels are regional sports network. Dish currently only carries one RSN full time in HD and that channel is Big Ten Network, for the rest of the regional sports networks’s games are made available as space permits.

A Satellite Dish reader got an email from Dish Network regarding the issue which said, “At this time of year, while NBA and NHL and MLB are all in season, we are getting more HD games offered to us than we had the bandwidth to support. When this happens, we have to drop games.”

Unfortunately Dish Network CSR’s don’t appear to know this and were telling customers all kinds of excuses including the game wasn’t made available to them in HD. For the record the game was shown in it’s full High Definition glory on DirecTV.

We Might Be Losing a Good One

As you may or may not know there are hundreds of free satellite channels available that can be received by customers owning Free To Air satellite systems.

There are lots of great things up there to watch and I was just informed that we could be losing one of the great free to air channels.

The popular family friendly channel “SAFE TV” has notified a number of folks that they may soon cease transmitting their signal to Free To Air viewers on the Galaxy 19 satellite.

Safe TV offers family friendly safe programming with a variety of new and classic television shows that the entire family can enjoy.

Safe TV for the most part has been user supported. Today I was forwarded an email from Safe TV President and CEO Carlos Pardeiro giving the scoop of what was up with Safe TV.

According to the email “The economic downtrend in our nation has created a critical situation in our Safe TV® ministry as our monthly donations have dropped considerably. Although we receive some funds from other sources, the vast majority of our funding comes from our viewers who appreciate the “Safe Television for All Ages” that we provide.”

It appears that Safe TV needs to raise $134,000 in the next week to stay on the air.

It will be sad if we lose Safe TV as the programming it offers is so good and so unique. Its truly television the way it use to be.

I do hope that they are able to raise the money needed to stay on the air. If you want to find out more about Safe TV you can visit http://www.safetv.org

Are You A Springsteen Fan?

I got word from Sirius XM that they will be holding a special Tailgate event for tonight’s Bruce Springsteen show at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands.

The special will broadcast live from the parking lot with Bruce Springsteen biographer and Sirius XM personality Dave Marsh.

Besides kicking off tonight’s Meadowlands concert the folks at Sirius XM will be presenting a number of recorded replays of past Springsteen shows from the Meadowlands all Memorial Day Weekend long.

If you love Bruce, you are going to love what Sirius XM is cooking up this Memorial Day Weekend!

What no sports packages? Dishnet exspects subscribers to believe that there multi sports package is worth purchasing! It's like comparing
the semi pros to the pros.....if people are paying these rates under Dishnets longterm contract agreements....they need to better there programing because after this contract is over I'm going back to DirectTV. at least I'll get what I'm paying for.....

I can not believe dishnetwork does not carry
Boston Red Sox Gms. It's unamerican. I had no
problem with Direct TV at $150 a crack, but, with all the loyal Red Sox fans it was worth it to watch a season of Red Sox baseball...very disapointed dishnet....It can't be that costly....Direct TV is working it out!

Thats correct. Turbo subscribers have not gotten many of the new HD channels. This topic has been discussed at length on Scotts website.

As an employee of Dish Network, I did notice that although Speed HD is available in the Classic Gold 250 w Gold HD add-on. It is not, however, currently available in the TurboHD Gold package by itself.
