Tennis is Served

June 23, 2009

This week DirecTV serves its customers exclusive Wimbledon Tennis coverage. Besides offering the standard coverage customers will see matches shown no where else. In addition DirecTV will be presenting a mosaic of 6 screens. And as always DirecTV gets interactive and offers features such as an interactive match guide, recent results and men and woman’s draws. In addition DirecTV is offering it all in full High Definition.

Coverage can be found on channel 701 and DirecTV’s coverage runs from now until June 27th.

Dish says Goodbye to the Pirates

It appears late last week Dish Network finished it conversion over to a new security system. The new security system known as NIAGRA 3 has now been fully enabled on all channels that Dish Network broadcasts.

The new security system patched a huge security hole that let people use regular legal free to air satellite receivers and modify those receivers to decrypt Dish Networks signals.

Legitimate users of Free To Air satellite equipment couldn’t be happier about the move as since the new security started going into effect they have been finding amazing deals on great satellite equipment on EBAY.

There is no know break for the new security system and many are hopeful that there won’t be a break.

Dish Network as a company that did not like talking about its security problem, but it was the industries worst kept secret. If they can make it a few months without the new security scheme being broken then they might have something to crow about.

DirecTV has been relatively hack free since they moved over to a new security system many years ago. I truly hope Dish will have with their new security that DirecTV has had with theirs.

On Vacation

I am away from my Connecticut home currently sitting outside at Walt Disney World in the 98 degree sun writing this. For the next two weeks I will be away, but just because I am on vacation does not mean that I won’t have my ear to the ground for you.

However with that said, with the upcoming July 4th holiday I don’t expect to much breaking next over the next two weeks.

Of course if something does break in the way of industry news you can find it here at MultiChannel.COM and also here in The Satellite Dish!

Thanks for reading!

Well if you want to find out if Dish Network secured their system they are not the right folks to ask.
While it's true that Dish Network subscribers all received new cards and the majority of the non-subscribers were turned off its not a done deal yet.
A work-around for the new system came about long before all the new cards were in place and all of the channels are still available with the exception of certain pay-per-movies and events.
It will take a while for the non-subscribers to transition to the new work-around or to purchase new hardware as the word spreads.
Given the fact that your average Dish Network subscriber pays around $75. per month the new hardware will be paid off before the third month and after that all your viewing is free.
Currently some eight companies have tooled up to supply the eight million FTA viewers now without service and this process will take a year or so but you can be sure that most of the FTA viewers who are now down will NOT be calling Dish Network or DirecTV to get their programming back.
The only thing Dish Network has done is to create a huge number of new purchasers for the Korean and Chinese manufacturers of these FTA receivers.
