Discovery Tops Satellite Survey
If you ask me what my favorite station is on satellite I won’t hesitate to tell you that out of all the hundreds of channels my favorite has to be the Discovery Channel.
Seems as though most satellite customers would answer the same way, and in fact they did. In the 2009 Beta Research Satellite Dish Subscriber Study Discovery Channel ranked number one in importance to the enjoyment of satellite service among total adults.
Myself I am a fan of Mike Rowe and his “Dirty Jobs” Show, I also like Adam and Jamie on “Mythbusters” and I am absolutely glued to my television when there is an episode of “Deadliest Catch” is on.
The study also showed good news for other Discovery Networks as Animal Planet ranked number one in satisfaction among women and The Military Channel is the #1 mid sized network among men.
The one I am disappointed that did not rank was Discovery’s Science Channel, this is my number 2 channel behind the Discovery Channel itself. If I am flipping through the channels and “How Its Made” is on then I am instantly glued to my set.
Congrats to Discovery for the amazing numbers, and thanks to them for the great compelling original television that keeps me and my family glued to the television week after week!
DirecTV at Wachovia Conference
Today DirecTV’s Jonathan Rubin, Senior Vice President Financial Planning & Investor Relations spoke at the Wachovia Securities 19th Annual Mid Year Equity Conference.
Some interesting facts were brought up including the following:
In the first half of 2010 DirecTV will launch a new satellite which will have the capacity to hold 200 HD channels.
DirecTV is publicly releasing Multi Room Viewing via select DirecTV DVR’s in the second half of 2009. (I have seen this one in action and this is a GREAT feature!)
DirecTV will be bringing the NFL Sunday Ticket to mobile phones in the fall of 2009. (iPhone owners insert your own AT&T sucks joke here.)
DirecTV has started pubic testing of “TV Apps” these are applications which run on your TV such as sports scores, weather and more. Like the iPhone app store DirecTV will let anyone create their own application for others to use.
The other interesting item was DirecTV is planning a new user interface on most of its receivers in 2010.
Unfortunately missing from the news was any talk of the upcoming DirecTV receiver with built in TIVO software that is do out in 2010. I know a lot of TIVO fans out there are waiting for any news on this long awaited receiver.

I wonder how the history channel faired.

Discovery used to be great. Lately it's just trash television. Crashes and explosions is all they have now.
