ESPNU Update on Dish

September 29, 2009

Looks like a lawsuit between Dish Network and ESPN over it’s ESPN U channel could have been settled. I learned late this afternoon that tomorrow Dish Network will be moving the popular college sports network from the Gold 250 package down to the Classic Bronze 100 package.

I was able to confirm with Dish Network that this move will be taking place tomorrow afternoon.

Dish Network sued ESPN claiming that ESPN violated its “Most-Favored Nations” contract clause. Dish claimed that ESPN made deals with DirecTV and Comcast that were “more favorable.”

Dish Network was asking for at least $1 million from ESPN in the federal lawsuit filed August 4th in a US District Court in New York.

While no word of a settlement of this lawsuit has been announced, I can only imagine that this move of ESPN-U to Dish Networks basic package was done as part of the settlement of this lawsuit.

And while ESPNU is moving to the Classic Bronze 100 package there is no word if or when Dish Network customers might see ESPNU HD.

I know many Dish Network college football fans are hoping that they get the HD version shortly, as the college football season is now in full swing.

DirecTV has announced that they plan on adding ESPN-U HD by the end of the first quarter of 2010.

Get in the RedZone

Dish Network and a number of cable companies carrying the NFL’s new RedZone channel will again carry the exciting new RedZone channel in free preview mode this Sunday.

The new RedZone channel has been getting amazing feedback from football fans nationwide and this free preview will let others see what all the hype is about.

The new NFL RedZone channel shows every exciting play from every game live as it happens, all uninterrupted with no blackouts and all 100% commercial free.

I am not much of a football fan, but I have found myself glued to the RedZone channel the past few weeks enjoying every moment of it.

On Dish Network the NFL’s RedZone channel is available with the classic 200 package and above with the $5.99 multi-sports add on package.

The Weather is Clearer on DirecTV

For fans of the Weather Channel in HD their local forecasts just got a little clearer on DirecTV as the popular “Weather on the 8’s” feature has been ported to DirecTV’s Weather Channel HD.

When The Weather Channel goes to the Local on the 8’s instead of DirecTV HD customers seeing a national forecast they see their local weather forecast and graphics.

This is one addition that Weather Channel HD fans are going to enjoy.

What's Dish's plan for ESPN Classic? Will it be moving to a sports tier today?
