Oh No... Not Again...

November 3, 2009

Last week I wrote about the controversy of the new DirecTV advertisement featuring the late Chris Farley. People were upset with the thought that actor David Spade did the ads to cash in on the memory of Chris Farley. David Spade said he did the ad as a tribute to the memory of his late friend and the ad was done with the blessing of the Farley family, but many folks were still not happy after David Spade explained his side of things.

Some of these folks are even more upset today as new ads are now online feature more deceased celebrities such as Heath Ledger, John F. Kennedy and Jesus Christ.

But there is a big difference in these ads that most websites are failing to report when talking about these new commercials and that is these ads were not made by DirecTV. They were in fact spoof ads made by a website that goes by the name of LandlineTV.COM.

The commercials were featured on a number of popular websites and blogs but many failed to note that the commercials were just intended to be spoofs of real DirecTV commercials. The commercials were so well done by the LandlineTV folks that many people thought they were real! I think DirecTV could save a lot of money on their ad campaigns by hiring these LandlineTV folks to make their commercials.

I received a number of complaints from readers about the ads with the writers not knowing they were spoof.

I guess even negative publicity is still publicity for DirecTV and that’s cant really be a bad thing.

Internet Television Taking Off

Internet Television Is Starting To Take Off

Lots of IPTV news as of recent, it seems as though most networked devices such as video games machines will still be able to stream movies from companies like NETFLIX to their televisions. The XBOX360 has been able to stream movies from NETFLIX for awhile now, but it has been announced that the service will soon be available for the Playstation 3, and rumors are swirling that NETFLIX streaming will also soon be available on the Nintendo WII as well.

Another box that can stream NETFLIX is the ROKU line of IPTV boxes, and last week ROKU got some new additions to it product line including the $79 ROKU SD player which is a standard definition unit, as well as a $129 Roku HD XR which is a high definition unit that also has built in WIFI reception.

Watching ROKU it appears this company is getting ready to take off in the IPTV world, I am hearing some buzz that many new IPTV streaming options and channels will soon be available on the platform. For some the offerings from a service like ROKU might just be enough to pull them away for satellite and cable providers.
