Satellite Aids With Hurricane Info
It looks like our friends in Louisiana are about to get slammed with another major hurricane. I hope and prey that everyone makes it through things safely.
It is unfortunate how a natural disaster like a hurricane can help show folks the power of satellite technology. As we have seen in the past with Katrina when cable systems were ripped apart satellite was there bringing everyone the latest news and connecting those effected back to the rest of the world. For Katrina as soon as it was possible to both Dish Network and DirecTV set waves of techs and installers into Katrina ravaged areas starting at shelters bringing them television signals and working their way out from there. Many areas relied on satellite for months before cable operators could restore service.
As I said before its unfortunate that a natural disaster like a hurricane can show folks how reliable satellite technology is.
DirecTV is already making moves to help out and has launched a special Hurricane Gustav Information Channel. This channel gives viewers tips on how to evacuate from your home, what supplies you should pack for you and your pets, pick up sites, evacuation routes (with maps) and even NOAH Weather Radio frequencies and information.
I applaud DirecTV for putting this channel together and would not be surprised to see Dish Network quickly place online their own information channel online soon, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dish Network launch their own version of an information channel soon. The DirecTV Hurricane Information channel is being broadcast on channel 363.
XM Satellite Radio is also offering emergency information coverage on channel 247.
If you are in the area where Gustav is going to hit please take shelter and take care, you guys and gals are in my thoughts and prayers.

You also forgot to mention that during Katrina, DISH and DIRECTV provided New Orleans locals to places where New Orleans citizens had evacuated to - giving those residents a taste of home while they were evacuated. I"m sure with Gustavo, DISH and DIRECTV will again do the New Orleans locals to evacuation centers. BTW, it's NOAA Weather Radio, not "NOAH".

DirecTV is now airing WDSU, the NBC affiliate of New Orleans, on channel 361.
