Dish Network Tech Chat Monday

November 7, 2008

Normally when Dish Network holds one of their live chats, I normally tell you not to waste your time, but not this time.  The next Dish Network chat actually sounds like it may be worth tuning in for.

The Dish Network Tech Chat will return to its roots and once again become a technical show for us folks who like knowing how it all works.  The show will return to its hour long live format with Mark Jackson and Dan Minnick behind the desk answering viewer’s technical questions

The folks at Dish Network were kind enough to send me over some details on Monday nights show and it sounds like it could be fun if you like tech.  The show will feature a tour of Dish Networks main uplink center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Here you will find out what it takes for Dish Network to get your television signals to you.  I have visited there before and it’s a very interesting place!  In addition they will talk about new receivers, new remotes plus show viewers some of the new products from Sling Media.

Mark and Dan will also be taking live questions from viewers and will even have a giveaway during the show.

This is the first chat in awhile I am actually looking forward to.  I am very glad to see them return to their roots and go back to a tech show instead of strictly marketing show.

The Dish Network Tech Chat will air LIVE at 9PM ET / 5PM PT on Dish Network Channel 101 this coming Monday Night.

Some Sirius Clues

There has been no official announcement from Sirius XM on the rumored new channel lineup which is coming to both XM and Sirius next Wednesday, November 12th.  And while we don’t have an official channel lineup the folks at Sirius XM gave us a big clue today.

Today Sirius XM took out a full two page ad plus a separate full page ad in USA today which gave us some good clues.  In the ads they mention that they will have 69 channels of commercial free music.  Then on another full page add it lists some of the commercial free music channels available. (And I am very happy to report my beloved Cinemagic channel lives on!)

The channels listed are as follows:

40’s on 4, 50’s on 5, 60’s on 6, 70’s on 7, 80’s on 8, Top 20 on 20;
Elivis Radio, AC/DC Radio, Led Zepplin Radio, E Street Radio, Grateful Dead Radio, Radio Margaritaville, Underground Garage, Siriously Sinatra;
Hair Nation, 1st Wave, Alt Nation, Faction, Classic Vinyl, Coffee House;
bpm, Chill, Shade 45, Hiphop Nation, Soul Town, Real Jazz, BB King’s Bluesville;
Outlaw Country, Bluegrass Junction, Willies Place, The Joint, Praise, Met Opera, Cinemagic, and On Broadway.

In addition what appears to be a leaked copy of the new XM channel lineup was posted to DigitalRadioCentral.COM early this afternoon.  If this lineup is correct, then I feel most folks will be happy, however some will be upset as gone are stations such as Fungus, Rhyme, Beyond Jazz, Fine Tuning, The System, Chrome and a handful of others.

No word yet however one what the new lineup will look like on Sirius.

Have a Great Weekend!

Personally, I don't care about Spanish channels because I am an American. If you want TV from Mexico GO BACK TO MEXICO!! If you want to live here, then BECOME AN AMERICAN!! Make your choice. My choice is to be an American not a Mexican.

I don't care about radio on my TV! I care that you offer new customers great deals and tell those of us who have been with you for MANY years to take a hike! Yea, I'll take a hike -- right over to Direct TV!! I HATE calling you and being directed to someone in India! Excuse me -- Americans need jobs!! TRAITOR you are!

DirecTV's retailer e-newsletter listed 13 channels that they're dropping this wendnesday: Aguila, Beyond Jazz, Caricia, Chrome, Fine Tuning, High Standards, Oprah & Friends, Raw, The Rhyme, The Virus, Vibra, Viva, VOX. This removes every Spanish station DirecTV has. It also says that they'll be adding new stations soon. BTW, if the removal of The Virus results in the same backlash that happened last time, we'll probably see it come back by the end of the month again.
