I Just Don't Get It!
Ok I will be the first to admit that I don’t know it all. There are some questions in my mind that have me scratching my head. Now I am not pondering the mysteries of life, I am pondering silly stuff such as:
- Why is Dish Network the only company to not carry the Noggin Network 24 hours a day? Back in December Noggin went 24/7 yet for some reason Dish Network insists on time-sharing the Noggin Channel with the “The N” leaving preschoolers with no safe television to watch at night.
For me this hasn’t been to much of an issue, since I subscribe to both Dish Network and DirecTV I was able to solve the Noggin issue by putting a DirecTV receiver in my 5 year old sons room, but many of our readers do not have this luxury. Since this has gone down I have received lots of emails from reader and also lots of comments on this issue from readers in our Satellite Dish Feedback.
- To ring in the new year Court TV changes it’s name to “truTV” now almost 5 months since they have changed over why do they insist running a bug in the corner of the screen on all shows telling us that “Court TV is now truTV?”
If people are not use to the new name yet then maybe the new name is not working and perhaps they should revert back to Court TV.
- If AT&T’s UVERSE service is the next generation of television service why can I only watch HD programming on one TV in the house at a time?
This weekend I saw a funny Comcast ad about this, they were picking on AT&T’s advanced television service and even joked that upcoming technological announcements from AT&T will include that they have invented a round wheel.
- Why hasn’t Dish Network settles with Tivo yet? This lawsuit has been going on for 4 years now and has really done nothing positive for either company. Sure Charlie may believe that his technology does not infringe on Tivos patent. (and I got to be honest I agree with Charlie), however how much time and money can you waste fighting this in court? Its time to move on and move forward for both companies.
If I were Charlie Ergen, I would find a way to work with Tivo as many people love Tivo, which means there is money to be made. Imagine if you were a Dish Network customer and having the option of having Dish Network’s excellent software on your receiver or for an additional monthly fee being able to have you box powered by Tivo software. Again there is money to be made here that currently is just sitting on the table.
I just don’t get it. What are some of the things you are pondering? Feel free to leave your thoughts in our feedback section. Thanks for reading!

Get used to it, when the analogs go off next year, they have to do it since that will be their only over the air signal, and if they don't have the ability to insert the map on top of the network's HD feed, they have to go to SD. Some networks are working with the affiliates to upgrade their distribution system so they can be prepared to do it without going to SD by the analog cutoff.

A Court/Tru TV bug in teh bottom corner doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as local channels dropping a weather map across not only a third of the screen, but dropping out of HD to SD just to show us there's a thunderstorm somewhere. Or is it only here in the midwest that they do those stupid things..

I do not get it Why doe Murdoac think that Sat. Tv is dead??

Scott, a simple solution. A five year old child should not have a TV in their bedroom. TV viewing at that age should be with parental involvement and supervision. If you don't have time to make sure your kid is watching something "safe" don't expect the TV networks to do it.

I just don't get why FiOS TV, with their superior picture quality, continues to use the lame Motorola HD DVR?
I also don't get why FiOS still doesn't offer customers a multistream cablecard when Comcast and Time Warner have been offering it for months? At $3.99 per cablecard per month (rental fee), this makes it almost $8 per month in cablecard fees just so a customer can use a Tivo HD (better HD DVR)
I really don't get why Verizon has not implemented external storage for their Motorola HD DVR (160GB hard disk) via eSATA?
Come on Verizon...give customers a better HD DVR, implement a $3.99 multistream cablecard, and add external storage!

The Noggin/N thing also affects teens as well. Most of the shows that The N airs between 6am - 6pm, like several Nick shows from the 90s, some of The N's previous shows, Growing Pains and others do not repeat at night, so Dish Network's customers miss out. My guess is it's probably something in their contract that dates back to their dispute with Viacom a few years back. Probably why Viacom has a new satellite feed of Nick GAS running on life support just for Dish Network too. Viacom's not even offering this feed of GAS to other cable affiliates either.
