Tennis fans will be happy next week as both Dish Network and DirecTV will serve up Wimbledon the way only the two satellite providers know how, by providing subscribers with more coverage then anyone else.

The coverage will give viewers coverage from 6 of the fames grass courts at once by using an interactive mosaic or game mix channel.  Viewers can select video from any of the 6 channels and see full screen coverage of that selected court.

Wimbledon will take place this year from June 23^rd to June 27^th.

Starz Free Preview Weekend

This weekend Dish Network customers can catch a free preview of the Starz Movie Channels.  This weekend Starz will offer a number of new movies, including Spiderman 3, Underdog and The Game Plan.

The week ahead

It’s been a slow week in the industry and I am not really expecting much next week however one thing to keep an eye on is VOOM and Cablevision.

It has been widely reported that Cablevisions contract to carry VOOM expires on June 30^th.  The question in my mind is what happens then, will VOOM be removed from Cablevisions lineups? 

As we have seen in VOOM’s court documents it does not appear that the HD giant wanted to get back on Dish Network.  Could this be the end of VOOM as we know it?

If I were VOOM I would start offering individual VOOM channels to cable and satellite providers instead of trying to require them to carry all 15 HD channels.  VOOM had some very good channels that could stand up in the market on their own.  I know a lot of folks miss Monsters HD and RAVE HD.  I know I for one would love to have certain VOOM channels back but I don’t know if I would like to see all of them back.

I know that next week a lot of my contacts will be on vacation, which is why I think it might be a slow news week.

Speaking of vacations1 I will be away from my office starting on June 25^th and will return on Monday July 7^th as I will be on vacation with my wife and kids.  While I am away I will do my best to monitor the industry while floating around the Caribbean on a cruise ship and if there is anything for me to report then I will post it here to The Satellite Dish!
