Satellite Radio Stuff & More HD Local on Dish
Satellite Radio Waves
Not much going on today in the satellite television world, but there is some news out there in the world of satellite radio.
XM’s Executive Vice President of Programming Eric Logan is leaving the company to go to work for Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions Company in Chicago. Logan will oversee several division of the company including Harpo Radio & Harpo Print. Not a bad gig for a guy who started his career at the age of 16 at KXXY in Oklahoma City. At that time Logan wasn’t hired to be on the air, instead Logan played the role of the stations mascot Cluck the Duck.
Eric Logan was a long time XM employee and was often heard as “E’Lo” on XM’s popular Opie and Anthony radio show. Logan’s new job will begin in mid August. No word on what this means for XM’s program department who also recently lost its Chief Creative Officer Lee Abrams.
Mama Mia!
I will be the first to admit, I am a 70’s and 80’s music junkie. When I hear that Sirius Satellite Radio was going to launch “Radio ABBA” this week I was excited. But after tuning in for a good part of the day to this new channel yesterday the channel just might make ABBA haters out of those who love the group.
ABBA Radio is one ABBA song after another and is airing for two weeks on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 3 and is airing to celebrate the upcoming movie “Mama Mia” which is being released in theaters on July 18th nationwide.
And while too much ABBA might drive you nuts, the great thing about Sirius is there are always over 100 other things to change the station to when Dancing Queen starts getting on your nerves.
More HD Locals from Dish Network
Look for Dish Network to announce tomorrow that they have added even more HD locals to their lineup.
This weeks lucky cities to receive their locals in HD from Dish Network are Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Birmingham, AL; and St. Paul / Minneapolis, MN.
All the new HD locals are being broadcast from Dish Networks 61.5 degree orbital location and requires a MPEG4 compatable receiver such as a VIP722 HD DVR and a subscription to local service from Dish to view them.
Dish is making great strides at reaching their goal of serving 100 cities with their locals in HD by the end of the year.

Still waiting for plain ole' regular locals here. Have Philly, DC, Baltimore, Alexandia, etc... all around me, but no access to locals here in Delaware!
