DirecTV Kicks off NFL Season

September 8, 2008

Yesterday DirecTV kicked off with week one of the 2008 – 2009 NFL Football season with their NFL Sunday Ticket and this year they appeared to score a touchdown early.

Sunday Ticket fans with the SuperFan add on package reported that they were amazed with this year’s offering from DirecTV.  Fans reported that the DirecTV’s HD NFL feeds looked “amazing” , with some folks saying that the HD quality they saw yesterday was some of the best HD video they have ever seen.

DirecTV customers with the SuperFan package were also able to access DirecTV’s all new Supercast online service.  This year the service was totally revamped and allows customers to view live games over the internet on and Mac or PC.  The service also offers live scores and stats plus the ability for fans to watch replays in near real time.

The launch of the NFL Sunday Ticket this year is a complete 180 from last years kick off which was marred by lots of problems including many fans being locked out of the SuperCast service.

Hats off to DirecTV for a great launch of the NFL Season!

MTV Begins Airing True HD Programming

Back in November of 2007 DirecTV added MTV-HD and up until yesterday the channel the HD channel failed to air any true HD content.  However this weekend a number of shows aired on MTV-HD in full high definition including last night’s MTV’s Video Music Awards.

While MTV-HD did air the VMA’s in HD Live, the replays that have been show so far have all aired in standard definition.

I expect this move of showing true HD to start happening on MTV’s sister stations CMT-HD and VH1-HD which up until now have not showed any HD content.

It also explains why MTV Networks decided to rename MHD (which was the best in HD from MTV, VH1 and CMT) to Palladia.  Palladia while still airing some concerts from MTV, VH1 and CMT is starting to form into a brand of its own.  Maybe since this channel is sprouting its wings on it’s own explains its wacky butterfly logo. More information on Palladia can be found at www.palladia.tv

DirecTV is currently to only satellite company to carry the MTV Networks in HD.

Charlie Chat Tonight

Tonight Dish Network CEO Charlie Ergen will take to the satellite beams as Dish Network presents another edition of the “Charlie Chat.”

There are hopes that tonight Charlie will give customers some more insight on Dish Networks future HD plans, however with Dish Network Charlie Chats we never know what we will get until the show airs.

I wouldn’t bother wasting an hour to tune in tonight, as if there is anything worth mentioning I will do it in tomorrow’s edition of “The Satellite Dish.”

If you would like to tune in the show will air tonight at 9PM ET on Dish Network’s channel 101.

They may have scored with Sunday Ticket and Superan, but they need to change the pricing. I was a subscriber for 3 years and its gotten way too pricey. I felt like missed nothing with the network cut-ins and nfl.com redzone audio now available. Compared to the MLB package and the value/price rationale Sunday Ticket is too expensive,
