Echostar files with the FCC to Split Company
It’s getting cold outside, so the good folks at Echostar decided to heat things up again with some recently filed documents filed with the FCC that looks to spin off Dish Network as its own separate company. The new company will be called Echostar Holding Corporation.
What makes these documents interesting is it appears that Echostar is in a rush to get this split done as Echostar is seeking to receive expedited approval from the FCC on or before December 15th.
The document mentions “Through an uplink agreement with EchoStar Holding Corporation, ECC will continue to use the uplink facilities used to provide DISH Network today. Through a similar agreement, ECC will also have access to additional capacity for DISH Network on EchoStar Holding Corporation’s EchoStar III and XII satellite currently located at 61.5° W.L.”
So all of you guys looking to light up the AT&T buyout rumors, here is your chance. Something is definitely brewing in Colorado.
Yesterday XM Satellite Radio launched “XM LED” a new 24-hour a day channel dedicated to the music of Led Zeppelin.
The new channel will air all of Led Zeppelin’s music as well as rare concerts and interviews. It will give fans a chance to “Get the Led out”, but I can’t help but wonder how much Led Zeppelin is too much. A few years ago a radio station here in Connecticut had “Zeptember” which played the music of Led Zeppelin throughout the month of September. After the month was done, I don’t think anyone (including Led Zeppelin fans) wanted to hear any Led Zeppelin again. It was quite awhile before that station played Led Zeppelin again.
This special “XM LED” channel will air on XM all the way until May of 2008. XM LED is now playing on XM Satellite Radio channel 59.
No thanks; I think I will take my XM “unLEDed” thank you very much.
Have a great weekend!
